"cannot send or receive faxes to one particular number, but is able to send and receive faxes with other numbers"

If your machine can receive a fax transmission from one number, it will receive from all numbers.

If your machine can send to all but not to one particular number, please check that there is a fax machine there to receive it.

You can try to send manually and listen for beeps from the other fax -if one is present- then push the START button to initiate transmission.
If their machine is in working order, the transmission should start. (After the initial 'handshake' of course.)

SOURCE: Problem with sending fax

Posible, try connecting a handset to the fax and dial the number,
or put it on speaker ( depending on the model you have, did not specify)

It could be a compatibility issues between the two faxes. If the other fax is particularly old its communication speed could be too slow for your fax.

Also don't rule out the line on there end. Many times in my job I've had Telephone company's check the line remotely and say its ok but its not until they come out to site that they find an actual fault.

Do a manual reception. Put your fax reception mode from automatic to manual. When the fax rings in pick up the line with the hook or speaker phone button and then press the start button. This rules out a fair part of the line correction. If you can receive of course.

SOURCE: what does poor line condition mean? i can receive

If this happening only on one fax number, its the other side, could be their line or fax machine.

Just make sure for youre end that the telephone wire is in the LINE jack of fax machine (NOT EXT) and other end should should go directly to wall jack (meaning no extention or splitter)

HOW TO FAX

  1. Make sure the fax machine is plugged into a power source and also plugged into a working phone jack.
  2. Turn the fax machine on.
  3. Obtain the fax number of the destination fax machine.
  4. Gather the documents you want to send and put them in the order you want them to be received.
  5. Fill out a separate piece of paper called a coversheet with the recipient's name, fax number/phone number, your name, your phone number, a short message and number of pages (including coversheet).
  6. Lay the documents face-up in the fax machine feeder tray with the coversheet on top
  7. Dial the recipient's fax number - put 9 before the number and area code
  8. Press the "fax" or "send" button, depending on the particular fax machine model

I keep getting error message 387 when I send a fax to a particular number. This is the only number I have a problem with. Thanks

The problem is not in your printer. The problem is in the phone cord at this particular number.Call the particular number and tell them to check if their phone line has any noise wich could make the error! Also they can try to change the phone cord and try again to send them a fax.
Try running the Fax Test from Printer Setup Menu.. Press Setup and under Tools - you will find Run Fax Test - Check which of all parameters it did not pass.

Able to send and receive faxes. some numbers

It does not sound as if there is a problem with your machine. The receiving parties may have given you the wrong number to send to.

Call those numbers from a regular phone and listen for fax tones.

Problems sending to a particular number

Hi,

Try sending your fax to a lower baude rate to 14,000 bps, I had this problem before and I solved it by sending to a lower sending speed bacause the line was very noisey.

Invalid number

Fax machines do not work well or at all on digital lines. They are designed for analog lines, like the standard phone company line. You may have to install a dedicated fax line from your tel. company.
