The keyboard on my Northgate netbook is funky. Sometimes it jumps to an earlier line without any warning. Any ideas as to why this should be happening?

Sometimes that can be caused by something stuck on the key, or if you've spilled anything on the keyboard and the keys are sticky. Try removing the key with a butter knife (careful not to break the hinge) and checking it out. It also might be worth picking up some compressed air and blowing out the keyboard, it might fix your problem and it's a good thing to do every month or so.

Other than the keys being stuck, I would think either some kind of driver issue or a virus. If you have an antivirus, update it then run as full and complete of a scan as you can, and just let it run overnight. If that doesn't solve the issue, try looking on the manufacturer's website for a driver update.

Just out of curiosity, what program are you using it with? It might be related to that program as well.

As a last thought, it could be a problem with your mouse. Try cleaning off the touchpad really well with alcohol wipes (after turning the computer off). If you can disable/enable the touchpad with a button or something, you can try that as well (or plug in a USB mouse and disable the touchpad to rule that out as a possible problem).

You wouldn't have some live insect in your keyboard have you? I've seen Microwaves do strange stuff when infested with some tiny insects BUT I doubt it's the case with your machine. I am trying to recall a Keyboard key that I sometimes accidentally press when trying to create a document using Word, etc which does the same or similar to what you've described. It pees me of as I don't know which button I hit, it is one of the main reasons I avoid Word, Outlook, etc. Please let us know if solved, cheers.

Keyboard buttons problems

The only solution is to replace the complete keyboard, there is a ribbon wire that sometimes cracks causing some of the keys to malfunction and it plugs into the motherboard. It would be a good idea to plug external keyboard to make sure there is no secondary issues.

Some of the keys not working on my samsung n150 netbook - backspace, delete , ] ' @ / toggle buttons tried restart, restore to earlier date - nothing works

The whole keyboard will need to be replaced in order to fix the problem, the keys are not designed to be serviced making it impossible to rectify the situation. The best solution is take it to a computer shop to have the issue resolved, or attach an external keyboard to restore full operation.

Some laptop keyboards have small "tabs" on the edge closest to the LCD screen, and those tabs fit "under" something metal,
in order to hold the keyboard in-place. Gently "work" that area, to get those tabs to move "above" (instead of "under"), to release the keyboard.

Reboot keep pressing the F8 key on your keyboard until a multiple choice screen comes up with options. Choose 'safe mode' and then try to uninstall any problematic devices-they usually have a yellow warning triangle in device manager to indicate they aren't working properly. Or send it back and get a refund!
