There is a blue spark and bug zapping sound-looks like its sparking on the ceramic ozone plate. The place looks fine-no cracks.

It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. The bug zapping sound is from dust particles in the air, that's being pulled thru the unit. However, it should not being doing in continuously (unless your home is really dusty), it may simply need cleaning. Cleaning the unit, about once a month is recommended.

Hope this helped you.

I JUST REPLACED THE OZONE PLATE IN MY XL15, THE GLASS PLATE HAD CRACKED BUT, NOW THE NEW CERAMIC PLATE WHISTLES LOUDLY WHEN ON ANY SETTING LESS THAN MAXIMUM?

Remember the glass plate is thicker than the ceramic. The whistling may actually be arcing of the metal tabs to the plate. Take the plate out and push the metal tabs in and towards the space where the plate sits. This will make the fit tighter and eliminate your problem. Re-install the plate.

I just bought a used 880 and when running I see small "sparks" from the plate behind the fan. It looks like the spark you get when using a battery powered fly swatter. That is the best way to...

DO NOT RUN THE MACHINE WITH THE DEFECTIVE PLATE! The sparks indicate that the plate is either defective, wet, or dirty. You can try cleaning the plate, then inspecting it for flaws.
The plates (4" white ceramic squares with screen glued to center of each side) must be clean and inserted correctly.
1) Soak the plates in equal parts plain ammonia/water for 5 minutes. Scrub gently with a toothbrush or small veggie brush. Rinse well. Blow dry or air dry. DO NOT use a towel or paper to dry it off. Avoid touching the screen with your fingers.
2) Inspect the plate carefully for cracks, discoloration, broken wires, loose mucilage, burned areas, or visible dirt or bug parts (!). If the plate is flawed or corrupted, you need to order a new one from Vollara (formerly EcoQuest/Alpine) at 800-989-2299. Use #16618 for the referral number.
3) Clean the metal fingers with a cotton swab and alcohol.
4) Insert the plates firmly, making sure they go in on the tracks, and that the contact fingers rest firmly on the screen part.

The little flickering light is simply an indicator of power, and is normal.

I no longer smell the ozone smell that i used too.

You probably have a burned out high voltage transformer. That's what produces the ozone. Helpful hint...........the high voltage transformer is also the one used in bug zappers.

My Flair smells like it is burning and the plates are making a loud sparking sound

What's burning is probably your high voltage transformer. When your glass plates get a crack in them, they will spark. You probably have a burned out high voltage transformer. That's what produces the ozone. Helpful hint...........the high voltage transformer is also the one used in bug zappers

Sparking

You got new plates they offer no support by phone? Could be some kind of dirt or contamination, the transformer could be shorting or sparking, write me at [email protected] or look me up on allexperts.com, it may be worth mailing to me and let me estimate repairs,

XL-15S, NO OZONE

Hello fleamrk,

Several possiblities here. Not static sound means the plasma discharge plates aren't energized.

1) Missing, cracked or defective discharge plate (you say you cleaned the filter - did you mean the lint screen in back, or the glass or white ceramic plate inside)? No plate, no ozone (O3) production.

2) Bad connection in the high voltage leads*.

3) Bad electrical components*.

*I'm not an electrician, and recommend that only qualified personnel troubleshoot high voltage electronic, both for safety, and for preventing further damage to circuitry. Visible problems, such as corroded or broken terminals that can be swapped when it's de-energized (unplugged) is one thing; having to dig deeper into the electronics is something that I expect to rapidly end up costing more than it's worth.
