To remove write protection:

  • Navigate to the following path:

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I bought 32GB Kingston Datatraveler G3.when plugged in its is detected as a AB usb 2.0 usb device. windows says it needs formatting, (raw format) can not format it even using...

click start control panel administrative tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes

automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now start

you might tick one box then return after its finished the first repair then return and tick the second box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive

I found that you get best results by ticking one box then returning after it has finished then tick the other box

then you restore it to its default status

Right click on usb drive select properties you will have an array of options

Select the hardware option then select your drive properties policies

restore defaults

In XP

Right click on your drive select properties then on customize restore Default in W 7

How to remove write protection from kingston usb drive

From the Kingston website:
DT101G2 - DataTraveler 101 G2 FAQ

Is there any security or write protection feature available for this DataTraveler? Unfortunately this unit does not have any security or write protection feature. If you receive a write protection message with this drive, check for the following:

  1. Verify that you are allowed to write to removable storage devices. There may be a security setting in the OS that disables write access to removable storage devices.
  2. Make sure you have not enabled write protection on the drive by using a third party software.
  3. If none of the above apply, the drive may be defective. Contact Kingston Technical Support for further assistance.

I have 32gb kingston datatraveler.it has a write-protection error.data will not erase or not format.pls help me

There is usually a little switch on the side of the device that enables write protection to stop you from losing all your precious data, slide it back and you should be good to go.

REMOVE WRITE PROTECTED PENDRIVE

Should be a switch on the pendrive. Just push it in opposite side. That will disable the write protection.
