Are you trying to lock it so no one can connect to your network, or lock it so that no one can access the setup? If you're trying to make it so no one can connect to your network, go to your router setup page(192.168.1.1). If you haven't changed the password for the setup page, it should be Username: admin Password: password. Look for Wireless Security, and add a WEP key. Once the router resets, your computer will ask for a key to connect to the network. Just type in what you made the key and you'll be connected.

If you want to lock it so nobody can change the settings, you'll need to do that from the settings page just like last time, except this time look for Administration. Usually it's one of the last tabs. In there you'll see the administrator password. Just change this and you'll have it locked.

Don't know how to lock my linksys router

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I put in the wrong password while setting up my new wireless router and now the green lock w/signal button stays lite and it seems to be locked. How do I unlock it?

that symble means that your wireless signal is secure with either wep or wpa-psk or wpa2-psk.that means you have a passphrase set for the wireless part of your router.unless you mean that you put the wrong login password ,either way if you forgot either 1 you can always reset the router to factory specs by pressing the little button in the hole of the router most likely on the back, just use a tooth pick or something nonmetalic to press it in for 30 sec. or till it restarts. Then you will have to reset all of your settings in your router including the passphrase and password.it is best to do all the settings from a connected lan cable and not wireless to start, and you can set everything else up from the same too.

I would like to put a lock on the router cause signal is slow with router, when not wireless it is fine, otherwise very slow.

I assume you are talking about putting a password on your wireless router?
Type in: 192.168.1.1 in your web browser, this will take you to the router configuration page. enter the username ans password, if you haven't changed it, they will both be "administrator"
From this page select wireless security
Simply follow the on-screen instructions from there :)
Good luck!

My router is security locked. I didnt set it. and I cant connect wiressley to my router. how do i reset this?

Reset the router to factory configuration by using a paper clip or similar item to (while the router is on) depress the "Reset" switch on the back of the router. Hold it for about ten seconds, then release. This should put your router back to factory specs. You'll then have to log back in to the router using the web interface and re-enter your wireless settings.

It also sounds like someone perhaps hacked your router. When you re-enter your settings, I suggest you change the user name to something only you know, and also the router access password (not the wireless key) to a strong password that, again, only you know. This should keep anyone from locking you out of your own router.

Hope that's helpful.

Unable to get laptop too connect wireless ..saying codes /password dont match

You should check the password which you have given for the router. Either you are typing it wrongly or you have forgotten the correct password. Try resetting your password and then try to connect your laptop via that router. Your problem will get solved

To lock or put a password on your Wireless Router is you have to get the Gateway Address of your Router (Firmware) like for example: http://192.168.0.1, to check it in your LAN Network Connection.. Check it there, then go to your Internet Explorer and type it on the Address, (http://192.168.0.1) the ENTER then LOGIN: admin PASS: admin,
To get into your Router Firmware and read all the instruction if you get in to put a password on it.

I cant lock my wireless router.

Ok, to put a WEP key from our router. You need to configure it, by doing that you need ethernet cable (cat 5). You need to connect your pc to your router using cat5 cable. After you've done that, open your internet explorer/firefox ect., and enter your router's ip address (router ip address can be found in manual or at the back of your router). You will be ask for username and password, just key in if you have one, otherwise just enter the default (mostly, username:admin ; password: none/blank ; depends on manufacturer). After you've done that, go to SETUP menu, and go to Wireless setup you can enable WEP key there, just choose your options. Just try it, I hope it helps you.
