Re: Does a lamp error message (6 blinking red status...
According to NEC technical support, if the status light flashes red six times, this could indicate a defective lamp.
If a new lamp is installed and the project still won't turn on, the projector will
need service.

Constant Green - TV is Powered On

6 Red Blinks, 6 Yellow Blinks - Lamp Missing, Bad Cable between lamp and ballast
And the Lamp cover must be here somewhere in your TV :
Possible lamp failure but lamp light not status should blink-I have suggestions but want you to try the self check first--if set has been unplugged plug it up and turn on and when it fails:
Mitsubishi TVtroubleshooting Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and getthe regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons togetherfor about 5 seconds. The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence. For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37. Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem: 12 = No error detected, check power supply. 32 = Lamp Cover is open. 33 = Air filtercover is open. 34 = Lamp abnormality 36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped) 37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped 38 = Lamp Temperature High 39 = DMD Temperature High 41 = Short is detected 44 = DVI cablebetween FMT and Engine disconnected
Hello Look at the number of blinks of the status light. [1] If it blinks at one cycle (0.5seconds On and 2.5seconds OFF) : Lamp cover error or lamp housing error. Replace the lamp cover or lamp housing correctly. [2] If it blinks 2 cycles (0.5 seconds ON and 0.5 seconds OFF): Temperature error. The projector is overheated. Move the projector to a cooler position. [3] if it blinks at 4 cycles (0.5 seconds ON and 0.5 seconds OFF): Fan error. Fans sill not work correctly. [4] If it bliks at 6 cycles (0.5 seconds ON and 0.5 seconds OFF): Lamp fails to light. Wait a full minute and then turn on again. [5] If it blinks continous (Red): Lamp has reached the end of its life. Lamp replacement messege will be displayed. Replace Lamp with same type and number. After replacement reset lamp hour. OK.
steady orange means projector in standby mode
red light 6 times is a lamp error.
either the lamp is old and wont start up or the ballast power pcb is not working.
can you hear the sparking of the high voltage trying to strike the lamp.
if you can then the lamp may be dodgy.
can you borrow one to test it out
I had the same issue, what I figured out was that I never removed the lamp door correctly, causing a small plastic piece to break off. To see if this is also your problem, inspect the back of the lamp door, top right corner, if it seems a rectangular plastic piece is missing, thats the problem. It presses in a small button nearby the lamp to let the projector know it's safe to power on.
both lights flashing green indicate the projector lost power while it was running (didn't get to go through shutdown procedure). if the status light blinks 6 times, the lamp is failing to strike (one time means the cover is open, 2 times is a temperature issue, and 4 times is the fan). if it comes on and shuts off a short time later (less than 15 seconds), the ballast is going bad and needs replacing. if it didn't come on at all, it'd be either the ballast or the colorwheel. if the lamp light was red, it would be the lamp that needs replacing. nec won't sell parts to anyone who is not an authorized nec service center, so you'd need to contact one to get the part (although they may not sell it to you). but good luck!
Replacing the lamp with an old one was helpful for me. Good news: the projector itself not faulty. Bad news: I have two projectors with the same issue at the same time (the lamps were replaced also at the same time) after only 400 hours of running.
