I have a 2006 GMC Canyon and we were on a 4 hour trip, and about half way back home, we noticed that there was a strong odor. When we got home we found that the odor is coming from the battery box. Think that the battery has overheated somehow. Think it may be the charging system... any suggestions??

Park the Canyon on a flat stretch of road or driveway and open the hood.

Remove the master cylinder cap located near the firewall on
the right side of the GMC's engine. Remove half of the brake
fluid in the reservoir with a turkey baster. Lay the cap over the
container.
i pretty sure you go through the back right above the bumper and below the tail gate there should be a hole, and your truck should come with the tools u need ( probably with your jack) anyways you put the rod in there and unwind it.
You can to the Salvage Yard for a new computer, but your going to have to get it reprogram to your ignition keys, so the Passlock will start the engine. Before you go through all of that. recheck every thing, it could be your crank sensor or your ICM faulty causing your engine to shut down. Keep me posted and let me know what DTC codes you have. Note: a faulty fuel pump or dirty fuel filter will not set a DTC code. You may have a dirty fuel filter or faulty fuel pump or faulty fuel pump wire harness or fuel pump relay.
