I have a six year old Dacor DTM2420s microwave that will not begin the heating process. The oven was running, I then heard a slight pop noise and saw the turntable reverse. I then opened the door and the turntable kept going. Now the keyboard does not go back to the clock screen and when I hit the start button the timer counts down but the turntable does not move and I do not hear the heating mechanism turn on.

I'm sorry to say that it's most likely the magnetron that's shorted out (the high voltage device that produces microwaves). It's usually the case with ovens this old that a compatible replacement won't be available.
There's also the fact that your oven is likely way past it's 'end-of-life' date so even if you could find a replacement, other components will begin to fail as more time passes.
In short, save yourself the money, time, and frustration with a new unit. Good luck!
hi Richard, from experience i would say the power supply to the magnetron is at fault, you must take extreme care if you intend to test the supply as the high voltages involved...
The description you provide indicates the magnetron has failed, "heats food" and blown the main fuse in the microwave oven, since the unit is 10 years old it is much cheaper to replace with a new one rather than have it repaired.
We just had the same problem - spark, loud noise, and then dead. At first I replaced the ceramic fuse and the same thing happened immediately. A local appliance store tested the transformer and found it was "bad." I purchased a used transformer from the store for about $35. I installed both of these myself with little effort.
How old is your popcorn? If it's over a year old in the pantry and not in the fridge it tends to dry out/shrible inside. Or...note that these days instructions indicate between 2 types:
regular hot air popping method and microwave friendly popcorn. You can buy hot air poppers cheaply at many resale shops.
WHEN THERE IS A BUZZING NOISE IT MEANS THAT ONE OF THE INTERNAL COMPONENT HAS FAILED .RANGING FROM A SMALL DIODE TO LARGE PARTS LIKE THE MAGNETRON OR TRANSFORMER OR CAPACITOR. IF IT IS 10 YRS,OLD YOUR BETTER OFF GETTING A NEW ONE .BECAUSE YOU COULD INVEST MONEY IN THIS ONE AND HAVE SOMETHING ELSE GO TWO DAYS FOR NOW.WITH A NEW ONE YOU ALSO END UP WITH THE NEW WARRANTY. HOPE I HELPED. KEN62 GOOD DAY!
