Hi, Our VFW post bought a used Hobart commercial dishwasher, model # wmp-es2 serial # 14054-302.We use the commercial soap, sanitizer, and rinse aid. The problem is,after washing the glasses they look sparkling clean. The minute we hang them up, they get all cloudy looking.I'm wondering if perhaps the water temperature is to hot? I did read some of the problems/solutions on this site.Is it also possible that ours should be hooked up to cold water and not hot? Thank you for your quick responce Cherie Brigham

    Hi,

The water going into the dishwasher, is hot. It steams when we open the door.I've found that if I rinse the glasses under hot water for only a second, the cloudy look disappears. We're using a commmerial soap, not a cheap gel.I don't understand what you mean when you mentioned salt.I will check the water temperature.

Hi,

Check that the dishwasher is getting hot by feeling the temperature of the door - also at the end of the cycle when you open the door there should be lots of steam. If the machine is heating the water then increase the salt delivery a little - or even try a more expensive detergent to see if it makes any difference.

Temperature-

The single most important factor in getting good results is HOT WATER!!
The water must be at least 130o to work effectively. This is documented by the major manufacturers of detergents, such as Proctor & Gamble. Otherwise, greasy films will occur, along with soap residues left on glassware, etc. Use a candy thermometer in a glass under the running hot water tap on your sink to measure the incoming water temp. In general, it is best to always turn on the hot water at the kitchen sink for at least one minute to allow the actual hot water to flow. If not, the first couple of wash cycles will have cold water in the tub, and this wastes time, energy and soap. Using the delay cycle is never a good idea, since you will be assured of a cold fill the first few cycles.

Water Hardness-

Most areas have fairly hard water, which affects the cleaning properties of detergents. Hard water is water showing above 7 grains of hardness. Our Austin customers have, for example, 11-20 gr. hardness in many areas, mainly due to the limestone aquifer which supplies the vicinity. For them, I recommend filling both detergent cups full, plus using a rinse aid. If you don't know how hard your water actually is, we have a solution.

Water Hardness Test Kits- Know where your water stands to determine your strategy.

- According to dishwasher industry statistics, approximately five million new dishwashers are sold each year. Many new dishwashers find homes in the 1.3 million new houses built annually. But that leaves 3.7 million other dishwashers-and most are replacing existing units that no longer perform because of lime scale, soap scum, iron and grease buildup. Based on an average cost of $400-500 for a new dishwasher, consumers are spending more than $5 million dollars each day on new dishwashers ($1.85 billion each year). Perhaps this would change if they had heard about the Dishwasher Magic product first :)

You can determine the cause of cloudy glassware by soaking a glass in vinegar for 5 minutes. If the cloudiness is removed it is a hard water deposit and more detergent is likely needed. If the cloudiness is not removed it is a permanent condition known as etching. In this situation, use less detergent and stop pre-washing. In actuality, dishwashing detergent needs a bit of soil to work on, otherwise it will tend to foam up.

Maintenance Techniques-

Every two months, run the unit with a quart of white vinegar added to the tank (no dishes or detergent for this!). This removes any deposits left behind in the tub, and actually helps keep the drain clear! Do this mainly on units with plastic tubs, since they are porous, and will absorb not only grease, but residue from the detergent.

Use a rinse-aid, such as Jet-Dry, in your dishwasher, unless you have a water softener. In this case, do NOT use a rinse aid, and reduce your powder detergent to one teaspoonful per grain of water hardness. We recommend the solid form of the Jet-Dry, not the liquid. For one thing, the liquid is harder to deal with than checking a hanging basket visually. Also, the liquid dispenser only injects a couple of drops of liquid into the unit at the end of the wash cycle. This does not take into account varying degrees of water hardness in different areas. The solid version is always working right thru the wash and rinse cycles. Hang it in the left front corner of the upper rack for the best distribution.

Detergents- Gel or Powder?

Gel detergents are not the best solution for your dishwashing . They create more problems than they resolve. A few examples include:

Gels contain chlorine bleach (dissolves rubber seals)

Gels tend to cloud glassware, leaving a whitish film.

Gels never really rinse off of interior tub or from sump area.

Gels clog the detergent dispenser, making it release late or not at all. This causes door streaking by the chemicals.

Gels don't work well in hard water, they leave spots

Always use powdered detergent or tablets, and make sure that your water temperature is at least 125-130o to the dishwasher! It makes a world of difference in the final results.

The problem is usually the water not being hot enough and the detergent. need to try buying small containers of different detergents and see with works best with your water and machine. hard water and the wrong detergent causes this problem.Perhaps you changed detergent lately or they changed the formula of your detergent. Or your machine is not heating the water properly any more. Like a failing heating element.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

How much soap do I need to add to a Hobart lx18h dishwasher. I know I need to add a little bit of soap to the machine however I cant seem to find out how much a little bit is

Hobart commercial machines are designed to run with commercial chemicals. There will either be an internal dispenser or an external unit supplied by the chemical supplier. Rinse aid is dispensed directly into the boiler. Detergent to the wash tank. The chemicals used are commercial strength so not required in the same quantity as domestics.

Hobart dish machine. We were told by Ecolab tech that we need to rinse off all presoak, soaps and sanitizers before passing through the maching as they cause foaming/excess suds. I do not find that info...

This is a "boilerplate" answer for the problem of over-sudsing. The reason you know this is a generic statement is that they have no way of knowing the contents of the presoaks, sanitizers, and soaps that you use. It is their way of saying "Until you are sure that you have ruled out all other possibilities of the problem, it's not OUR problem yet". When I was a dishwasher they told us we needed to basically "prewash" all the dishes before running them through the dishwasher, otherwise you will find that you have to drain and refill more often and will use more soap and such. Only problem was, "prewashing" was so time consuming that we were losing more money doing it that by draining and refilling the machine each shift. We still rinsed them with the sprayer before loading, but the heck with the pre-wash....that's why you bought the $#$^*^ dushwasher, right?

That's true. excess of foam can cause poor wash pressure and poor final rinse.

Operation manual , pag.24. (F17791Rv02-06.pdf)
DO NOT exceed chemical manufacturer's recommended concentrations for detergent, sanitizer, rinse aid or lime scale remover.

What type of detergent is used for a lx30c hobart undercounter dishwasher

What type of detergent is not necessarily important - anything intented for use in commercial dishwashers should be sufficient. A restaurant supply store should have something suitable for you.
Also, in case you don't already know, the LX30C is the non-booster-heater version of the LX30 (LX30H has a booster heater). Without a booster heater, you'll need to use chemical sanitizer. The LX30C should, hopefully, have a sanitizer pump installed to inject chemical sanitizer into the rinsewater stream. Most of these dishwashers also have a detergent pump to inject detergent into the wash tank and rinse aid pump for chemical rinse aid.
If present, these pumps are located in the bottom of the machine. Remove the lower front panel (2 screws) and look for the small, black plastic assemblies with 2 hoses connected to each.

Do all Hobart dishwashers have a element in them for wash water and rinse water

All Hobart dishwashers will have a wash tank heating element, but the rinse water is not heated by the dishwasher, unless it has a built-in booster heater. Usually a separate booster heater is used to heat rinse water to 180-190 deg. F for hot water sanitation.

I have a three year old Hobart. I am not sure

Look on the top edge of the door to find the data plate. It sounds like an SR24, if the leds are on the left of two temp gauges. If your sanitizer pump has a tired silicone tube that is flattened from use, it will not draw chemical. if you have an air bubble in the sense board at the back, it will think you have run out. If you have changed the type of chemical or diluted it, the board will need recalibrating to suit. Put some sanitizer in a small vessel with the pickup tube and monitor the amount delivered. Usually one is looking for 50 ppm solution of bleach and rinse water.( test with litmus paper) If you have an SR24H with a booster, you don't need bleach sanitizer and holding the sanitizer button will turn the sense off.

No dishwashing agents or rinse agents dispensed into machine through external tubes.

The D-8 is a great D/W and is in fact a full use D/W if you call Ecolab,Diversey or whatever chemical agent you use they can install an automatic soap system on this machine with no trouble

Hobart LT 1 dishwasher leaving film on dishes

The machine is seldom the cause of "film". Make sure the unit is draining proper and that the fresh water supply is supplying good pressure.

Usually film is caused by using residential soap in a commercial unit. The commercial unit cycle is too short for residential soaps to dissolve and work properly. So soap ends up in your rinse water.
