    What I would like to know,is how you set your timer to water twice a day instead of three times a day. How to set the timer to water once in the morning and once in the eevening.

    lnodley - you asked this question 3 years ago. I guess that is long enough to wait. Set the time to 12 hours instead of 8, and it will water every 12 hours (2x per day) instead of every 8 hours (3x per day). There you go!

Vigoro 4 zone water timer looking for operators manual

Google the MODEL number or contact the outlet where you purchased it. A model number is needed to get accurate results, because they make so many. They appear to be a BRAND with no MAKER. They also do compost and fertilizer which means they don't actually make the timer, they have someone else like Gardena make it and put the Vigoro badge on it. The reviews are very mixed, units that leak, units that don't open the valves, units that work sporadically etc.

Made by Melnor possibly? Is this it?

Need to known how to set the timer do not have a manual we have the VIGORO deluxe water timer, they are about two years old.

I do not know how to set the timer, but can offer possible source for manual.

VIGORO timers can be same as Melnor:
Match up image with your timer and then download manual.
Water timers last 1 or 2 seasons. There is no repair for broken water timers.

I have 2 Vigoro 196-036 watering timers. Why does water come out of the three holes near the battery compartment on one of them?

It comes out of the holes because the water goes in the holes. That might sound dumb but Vigoro designed these only to be in dry conditions, such as attached to the water line. I used them for sprinklers, but the water poured into the timer so bad it shorted it out in a week. I did find a vigoro timer with no holes and a sealed unit, and they work great. But I can't find them anymore.

Regarding the Vigoro Electronic Water Timer, Model 196 036: How do I program the timer to water every day, in the early a.m., then in the evening? Is the greatest hourly spread per day 12 hrs.? In...

I think you almost have it right, you can program how many hours apart.
4=6 x per day
6=4 x per day
8=3 x per day
12= 2 x per day
24=1 x per day
Then you set how long you want it to be on, but that can't exceed your hour setting. I believe these are the same timers as Melnor. You can go to their web site for manuals. http://www.melnor.com/instructions.php. If you really want exact timing, I'd get a quality electric timer, and then buy a electric valve such as you'd use for a sprinkler system.
