Hey there, first be sure you entered your username and password correctly. In offline mode select from the top left corner of the messenger window: messenger > connection preferences. See if your connection is set to connect via a proxy server. If true, Select connect directly to the internet by selecting the radio button. Insert your login details again and try. That should solve it. Hope this helps pls don't forget to vote.
Try to login after some specific time , and check if you are able to login successfully,
After several attempts in the login fails, then you need to restart the PC and try again while you are connected to the internet.
Make sure that you have not logged in to yahoo mail from your browser/internet explorer, if you have then you need to log out and check logging in the yahoo messenger only.
Remove the application via uninstall from the add / remove programs option , and then delete the registry keys related to yahoo messenger or the complete yahoo messenger folder and then install it again , as many time it would work.
To remove the registry keys you need to start regedit.exe from the run command in the start menu and search for yahoo messenger for e.g. "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\Pager"
Delete the folder for pager if it exists.
Resintall yahoo messenger , and try to login again and it should work fine.

Have you tried logging out of Yahoo Messenger and logging in again using either just your ID or the FULL email address? If this does not work, then the best way to solve your problem is just uninstall your current Yahoo! Messenger and download and install the latest version from http://messenger.yahoo.com.
