The "IDE" cable you refer to is the "Flat Flexible Cable" or FFC in Epson parlance. It connects to the Main Board. To remove the top cover, apart from the obvious fixings at the back, you need to release the two hidden hooks at the front of the cover. For this you will need a strong thin strip of metal - an old fashioned ladies nail file is ideal, or a very thin screwdriver might do; it also takes a bit of a knack to do this, so be patient. You will need to lay the printer on its back, but note that in this position, waste ink can spill out of it. Make sure you lay it on a good thick layer of newspaper. Underneath at the front near each corner you will see a narrow slot.
Insert the metal strip in one, at an angle such that you touch the front wall of the case. Slide the tip of the strip up the case wall until you feel an obstruction - this is the hook. GENTLY prise the hook away from the wall and the case will open a bit; do not use too much force or you will break the hook - it is only thin plastic.
Repeat the process the other side. Complete the case removal by GENTLY pushing in the hooks at the back. When you replug the FFC into the main board, make sure you thread it correctly around the guide posts, so that it can move backwards and forwards correctly when the print head is moving. Test the printer before you put the top case back on. You may feel it would be sensible to purchase a Service Manual before you tackle this task - they
are pretty cheap.
SOURCE: Sony DPP-FP30 do not work with wista
Sony says DPP-FP30 is compatible with Vista (both 32-bit and 64-bit) and that the printer driver is included in the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.
However red-eye reduction, Exit Print, Auto Fine Print, enlarging preview, and reducing preview are not supported.

Export your photo from iphoto to a usb stick. Then stick that into the printer´s usb port. Use the menu of the printer to make any last corrections (size, brightness, borders etc). Works with both RAW and JPEG. Good luck. /Anders
