First, you can only get digital channels now,so you must have a tv that can receive digital. You can buy digital tv antennas that can receive about 70 miles that mount outside or in your attic. Also you can get a signal booster that will help if you can get a minimal signal. The booster will only amplify a signal so if you cant get one at all it won't help.

The news reported that that several people, despite having cable, satellite, or digital ready televisions still saw the failure test...some sort of glitch. It caused a great deal of confusion. If your mom's TV is digital ready, she is probably one of the many who saw the failure signal by mistake. I thought you didn't need a converter box in with digital ready TVs, but maybe you do. Definately call the manufacturer and ask...I think there's a deadline on the coupons for converter boxes, so definately check this quickly. Good luck.

I am happy to help, you will need to attach a antenna to the tv to pick up OTA over the air signals, depending on your location you may be able to use a set of rabbit ears, I have provided a link to a site that will explain in depth.
