Monitor or pcu problem

While working on the computer the screen goes white or gray and sometimes with lines through it. I move the mouse and nothing happens. I even press the menu button the the monitor and can see the menu but nothing else. I hooked the monitor up to my laptop and it worked fine but when it is hooked up to the original tower after a while of being on the computer it goes out again. I have to reboot the computer to get the screen back to normal. Is this a problem with the screen or something in the tower. I uninstalled the video card and monitor and reinstalled it and it did the same thing. Please help, what could the problem be?

It appears that your graphics card is defective. If the monitor works on your laptop and reinserting the graphics card did not help, I would suspect the card itself.

Picture goes black with gray fuzzy lines ~ 1/2" apart horizontal.

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following
symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can
examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life
of your monitor or TV by several years.
Take it to a repair shop.

Screen won't work on new computer

Reconnect the old monitor.
Start Windows.
Right-mouse click anywhere on your "wallpaper".
Click Properties.
Click Settings.
Move the slider to 800-by-600 or 1024-by-768.
Click Apply
In 'Advanced', set the refresh-rate to 60 Hertz.
Click OK.
Shutdown.
Reconnect the new monitor.
Restart your computer.
Right-mouse click anywhere on your "wallpaper".
Click Properties.
Click Settings.
Now try moving the slider to higher values.
If the screen goes blank, wait 15 seconds, and Windows will cancel your change to a higher value.

Toshiba a105 screen goes blank

Sounds like GPU failure. unfortunately its nigh on impossible to replace without replacing the whole board which can be expensive. I saw a few on ebay for around £120.
