I can hear the sound, but the only picture it has is a thin strip across the middle of the screen.
hello, i have a zenith sentry 2 tv, but i can't find any codes for it.I have try so many remote already:GE, ONE FOR ALL, RCA, SONY, but any of them works. please help
The thin strip is possibly a combination of bad parts on your main board. You possibly have a bad horizontal output transistor and or a bad flyback transformer. All of witch should not be repaired by the average homeowner. These sets could have upwards of 30,000 volts inside even when unplugged!! Please dont forget to rate this answer for me ! Good luck!!

The vertical scan output section of your tV is faulty. It might be an IC failure or loose solder terminals at this section. Your set need service. Never advance brightness control to this set at this condition. It may leave a thin black line across the screen, which will be irrepariable. Contact any experienced service technician.
Hello jreese, Hi, Most definitely its a horizontal output problem, your tv has no horizontal deflection to pull the screen vertically, the power transistor that produces the high voltage is bad, this needs to be replaced. definitely you always have sound, the audio section is a separate block from the high voltage block, go look for a technician to have this checked.
there is a poor or many poor solder joints in the vertical section of you tv, this is a simple repair for a technician. the set should not be used until this is fixed or this could damage other parts of the television.
dry joints on the field output ic is a fairly common problem with these.if a firm slap changes things,a simple resoldering job does the trick.resoldering is usually the cure ir the fault was intermittent.otherwise the ic may need to be replaced.cheap as chips,so to speak.hope this helps,steve.
This is a problem with the vertical circuit. If you can solder, you should be able to fix this. With teh unit unplugged, open up the back and locate the vetical IC. This should be a small flat IC attached to a heatsink with about 9-11 pins. It may be marked LA7837 or something similar. Try resoldering hte pins. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the IC. I will look up your specific model and try to get more details.
This problem is caused by the loss of vertical deflection. Either the vertical output section of your TV or the vertical coupling capacitor has completely failed. In any event you will have to have a TV technician fix this set, BTW I hope you have not been playing the TV with the line on the screen this will burn the TV screen.

I turn on the monitor, I hear a 'cracklin' sound Reply: In a CRT Monitor there is a component called EHT which generates High voltage which is connected to the anode of the CRT, If there is any leakage due to moisture can cause this crackiling sound, You need to clean this high tension wire or replace the EHT ( CAUTION : BE AWARE OF HIGH VOLTAGES )

this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!
