Before you open the case, or the hdd drawer, dowload the UBCD on another working computer and install it to a cd or usb pendrive.
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/install-and-boot-ultimate-boot-cd-ubcd-from-a-usb-device/

Click on the HDD folder and use the utilities to detect the drive and it's condition, then, if no results, check that the data cable is seated at both ends and the power cable is also correctly aligned and seated. If you are using a sata adapter on your power supply, make sure no pins have unseated from the plastic assemblies.

  1. You might try using a different power or SATA cable to the drive. One of them may be defective.
  2. If your BIOS cannot see it then Vista cannot see it.
Check your BIOS settings....you might need to enable SATA in your BIOS
I hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FixYa!

HOW DO I FIX A EMACHINES G52W BOOT SEQUENCE AND SETUP SO I CAN GET TO THE INTERNET ?

I believe you might want to set the boot to

1 DVD (first)

2 SATA Drive (second) Maybe you didn't have this listed as 2nd.

If you have a disk in the DVD drive it will say press any key to boot from the DVD drive.

Cant access HITACHI TRAVELSTAR 5K250 HTS542516K9SA00 160GB drive

If the drive cannot be accessed then the logic board on the hard drive is toast. U can remove the sata drive and install it into a working desktop with sata connections and see if the desktop recognizes it.

When installing on another computer, make sure that you are still booting up from the working sata drive originally there. If you change the bootup sequence to the allegedly non working drive and it does work you may corrupt the operating system in the bootup process. Just put it in there and see if the other computer boots up and recognizes it. Often if a hard drive is really bad the defective unit will prevent a good working computer from booting up at all.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps

My SATA HDD cant be seen and wont boot

In order to recover the data, you will have to obtain a disk utility such as 'Avanquest Partition Commander' (any version). Boot from the CD to see if the SATA drive can be "explored".
If so, connect a USB or eSATA drive and copy the partition to the external drive.
Other experts may suggest a different disk utility.

Boot up error

You may have to open your computer and locate the hard drive. Trace the cable to see where it plugs into the motherboard. If there are other slots that it will plug into the motherboard, try plugging the hard drive into those.

If you have SATA plugins, it will be relatively easy to find a new port to plug it into. If you have IDE plugins, you may want to skip my solution and try other things first.

Software raid/ide

it won't touch them, it should ask you which partition you want to boot from, or which version of windows if your boot.ini files are on the same drive.
