Kitchen Aid Unit - maybe 4-5 years old but past warranty. Freezer not freezing. Not that cold in fridge. I played with the dials 1. Are higher or lower numbers on the knob coldest? 2. Set dial to higher number in the fresh food compartment (large door) set the freezer
knob on the vent stack in the center or to the left (if it is set to colder, this prevents cold
air from getting into the lower fresh food compartment). Colder means the freezer
gets colder.
Also if you have a failed defrost termination thermostat it will cause this
symptom on many models. (a lot of folks will disagree but I have only seen a couple
of defrost timers fail in 10 years). The water makes its way into the defrost termination
thermostat and corrodes the contacts inside. It is behind the freezer panel and has two
wires going to it. It is clipped onto a tube. You will need the model and serial from inside
the fresh food door (on the side panel) to get a new one, usually less than 20 dollars.
Remember to set the fresh food compartment temp from 34 to 39 degrees with a
thermometer in a cup of water for 24 hours. Don't forget to unplug unit if service is
required on the thermostat. Hope this helps.
