Juki TL98Q does not hold the tension--set perfectly, then sew for 6-8 inches and it is out of balance again--too tight, too loose and that continues for the whole time I attempt to use it. I do not have 40 hours on this 7 yr old machine as this tension problem is a nightmare. I can only have fixed it in the repair shop, to have it come out of adjustment with use. Does the tension assembly need replacement, maybe? Please do not tell me to look in the phone book as the last person did--not too helpful, that.

SOURCE: I cannot get the tension set on my Juki TL98QE

Is your top tension set tight? If not, it may be a problem with the tension spring and if it is a new machine will be covered under warranty. It may also be that the bottom tension is set too tight. Not a major problem

My Juki TL 82 tensioner is so tight at the bottom of the disks. I have removed it, cleaned it, set it, reset it numerous times. It sews two perfect lines and the third line it nests. Or it bunches.

Do this: Loosen bottom tension/tighten top tension until the knot ends up in the center of the fabric. It is obvious the bottom tension is way too tight.

I have a brand new Juki MO-50e and the threads are loose on the back of the fabric, how do I fix this?

  1. . re-thread your machine with a rainbow of colors. (important that you remove the existing threads if you are not sure it is threaded properly.) make sure you are lifting the presser foot while rethreading.
  2. Sew a good 6 inches.
  3. Look to see which threads are the offenders and tighten the co-responding tension knobs a little.
  4. Sew another 6 inches. Examine the result. Adjust tension again if needed.
  5. Work this way until you have the stitch balanced.
  6. Finally when your stitches are perfect. clip the threads at the spools in back. And tie on the coordinating colored thread for your fabric.
Get used to this procedure since it is common to have to adjust tensions when you change fabric. Good luck!

I have a juki tl98q sewing machine for my mid arm. The bottom thread keeps bunching up and I cannot sew anymore. What can I do to fix this? Do you have a diagram to thread the bottom bobbin and the top of...

The threading diagrams are available in the manual which is available from Juki on the TL-98Q product page: http://www.juki.co.jp/household_en/pism/tl98q.html . The direct link to the manual is http://www.juki.co.jp/household_en/pism/img/tl98q/download/98qim.pdf . See pages 14-18 (pages 16-21 of the PDF).

There are a couple of things I recommend that you check. First, make sure that the bobbin is evenly wound. This is a function of the bobbin winder tension; see the manual (page 15) for that adjustment. Next, check if the bobbin case tension is correct. Place the bobbin in the bobbin case and dangle the unit from the thread. Try to shake the bobbin case up and down, sort of like a yo-yo. The thread should advance by a bit. If the thread length doesn't change, loosen the set screw on the side of the bobbin case a small amount. If you get a really long tail of thread, tighten the set screw. See page 21 of the manual.

Next check for any loose threads and dirt in the housing around the bobbin case. Depending on the length of time that you have been using the needle, replace the needle.

I hope this helps.

Juki TL98Q long arm quilting machine: can sew perfectly then all of a sudden a series stitiches are skipped. Why?

Using a long carpenter's level, level up your frame. Low areas in the frame can cause skipped stitches. Also, check the wheel sensor wheels-are they making good connection? These can lose connection when you quilt in certain directions.
