My Garmin nuvi 265 was working fine until 2 weeks ago. We got a screen message saying that the XM traffic was not supported, and then noticed that the unit no longer could be charged using the car charger. Other items work when plugged into the 12V car outlet, so the problem is not with the car. The unit charges up fine when attached to the computer so it probably isn't the unit itself. We tried replacing the fuse in the car charger cord, but the Garmin still won't charge and the traffic function doesn't work. Any other ideas?

found female jack on the 755 mount where the car charger pluges into the GPS was not securely soldered onto ckt bd so after multiple times pulg in or unpluging the unit or just stressing the connection the fine wire conncetions (about 12) tend to break forcing the unit to operate on battery mode untill battery is discharged. you an purchase a replacement GPCCradle Holder compatible with Garmin Nuvi on Amazon GPS Cradle Holder Compatible with Garmin Nuvi for about $20

If you have noticed this in your area and your 12v cigarette lighter plug in powered and charging the unit then unit may need a firmware update, do this using garmins WebUpdater Software. Also traffic is not covered in all areas so if your travelling you may be in an ara where this feature is not supported.

your nuvi will receive its traffic updates through an FM channel that requires no subscriptions. The receiver is located in the 12v power cable so aslong as you are powered you should receive updates.

Many Garmin nuvi GPS units that are traffic capable come with a complimentary 1 (or more) month trial of the service. After that period is over, a subscription must be obtained to continue to receive traffic reports. The GPS will continue to provide routing and mapping without a traffic subscription however. Only the real-time data will be missing without a subscription.

Pay close attention to which traffic service you get. The MSN traffic service will be going away in the next year or two. The FM traffic service appears to continue to grow. Phone a Garmin Customer Service Rep to discuss your traffic subscription options and possibly active your choice with them over the phone.

You need to call garmin to have them help you unlock your unit. It sometimes requires the 25 digit unlock code which they have on hand. 1-800-800-1020 I believe.

Erratic behavior is an indication that the firmware / system software inside your GPS has been corrupted.

Satellite reception is one of the issues addressed in Garmin Nuvi 265WT firmware updates.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265WT running like new:

1. Back up your Favorites.
2. Perform a Hard Reset.
3. Download and then run Garmin 265WT WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I had the same problem but I think I fixed it by NOT sharing my phonebook.

The system bootloader software got scrambled when you did the update. You can escalate it to a software tech and they may be able to give you the bootloader image file. If not, you'll have to get an RMA and send it back for a unit swap.

I am very sorry to hear that you are having problems with the unit. You
may need to switch the unit on and press and hold the centre of the
screen until the message ?No detailed maps? message disappears.

If your map detail is missing, then the map information may have been
disabled. To check to see if the mapping has been disabled, follow the
steps below:

From the Where to? and View Map page, touch the Spanner icon, settings
(Tools).
Touch Map.
Touch Map Info.
The unit should display the name of the map that is loaded to the unit.
The box in front of the map name should have a tick in it. If it does
not, touch the box to place a tick in it.

Then please test by searching for an address.
