I tried to upload a new voice to my tom tom XXL 550T and was not able too. It then sent a message to Tom Tom with the issue. What is worse is now the screen has been frozen with a mostly blue screen with a flashing red X in the middle center right. The word Tom Tom XXL on the top right an image of a Tom Tom XXL on the center middle left and at the bottom it looks like a hard drive image. When I try and reboot the unit it makes a little drum sound and goes back into this screen. The owners manual does not address any trouble shooting and now I'm a little pissed off with no customer service from Tom Tom

Tomtom xxl problems
these have major issues during updates. mine also failed after update in very similar fashion. and after searching a lot of forums apparently its a very common thing. unfortunally i never found any solution to this. and ended up having to throw it away since it was past its warranty period. i suspect it was a buildt-in planned obsolescence since it was very rarely used (less than 6 times) but maintained at ideal long term storage condition

How to adjust the volume? Volume is barely audible. Tom Tom 550TM

You can use the PREFERENCES menu option to change the volume of the voice instructions. Use 'Volume preferences' pref06.gif, with its sliding scale to set the required volume in increments of 5%.


The 'Test' function is a good way to get the volume right before starting your journey. You may also find it helpful to use 'Link volume to car speed', so that the voice instructions get louder as road noise increases and are at their quietest when you are stationary.

I have a tomtom xxl 540s and it just loads tomtom logo on screen and freezes
First you need to reset the tom tom by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds, it will restart itself, from there it should get passed the tom tom logo.
If it does not do the job, then you need to connect your gps to a computer, then back up the files then you restore the files back on it after formating the gps.

Try some other 'voice'. Is it still distorted? The loudspeaker might have come loose or damaged. If the new sound is fine, the original software voice is damaged and the unit should be fixed according to the warranty.

You will have to delete some features, icons, or voices from your tom tom using the desktop software on your PC in order to upload a new map to it.
