This will cause big problems. It will not work and will likely cause both inverters to fail. Power inverters must create the 60Hz sign wave from a crystal controlled internal frequency driver. It's like a clock that keeps the timing at 60Hz. 2 independent units will have slightly different clocks both in time and frequency. This would cause the output waveform of one unit to be out of phase with the second. If they are out of phase, they will look like loads to each other and likely fail. It would be possible if the inverters had a way to link their clocks or use only one clock. This could be designed in however I have never seen this feature. You can hook up multiple inverters to the low voltage side (12VDC), just don't hookup their 120VAC output side. Hope this helps.

Which receptacle is positive

Not likely to be DC generator output, it has inverter output. Inverter converts dc to ac. Test it if you have access to a voltage meter.

Aims 2000 watt power inverter will not turn on. i have it hooked in series to two 12 volt batteries and when i flip the on switch nothing happens

try parallel .
negative battery one to negative battery two
positive battery one to positive battery two
all positives to inverter positive
all negatives to inverter negative

Why ?
if batteries are in series you are adding voltages so inverter gets 24 volts when it is rated at 12 v to 16v but two batteries in parallel increases the current available and capacity but keeps voltage at 12 v

Why would my new 1500 watt inverter readout show overload 13.8 volts entering

It would show overload if you're drawing more power than it can supply. 1500 Watts is a very high output for an inverter but that is the maximum it's capable of. As with any electrical supply you should not draw the maximum power it's capable of as this can cause it to burn out. Around 1200 would be the max you should draw continuously. You need to check the power requirements of whatever you're running on it. Also you need to check that it's capable of taking 13.8 volts. If 12 volts is the recommended input, putting in 13.8 will increase the voltage output which could damage appliances being run on it.
