I would put it in your car and let it get warm, then try..you know with the heat in the summer with the doors and windows closed it will be more able to give and it might budge! Good luck..it's a physics thing!

At Maxi Cosi we recommend a carseat with integral harness is replaced at about 5 years old due to the natural degradation of the plastics and polystyrenes that make the seat safe in the event of an impact. Over time they will become more brittle and in the event of an impact they may break and not provide the protection you anticipate for your child. As your carseat is Chicco branded we would recommend you contact Chicco to ask what their advice on expiry dates is.

If this was a UK model this could be connected to the FR treatment (Fire Retardency) sometimes this smells a little like that, and sometimes a bit like fish (very odd, but it is there to protect you). I would contact www,chicco.co.uk or email sales@chicco .co.uk who will be able to advise further.
first have you removed the newborn insert and tried to lossen the straps the instruction manuel should have how to do it exaclly, in our town you can go to the police and theywill show you how to use your car seat hope this helps
