I acquired a Xerox One Touch 2400 Flatbed scanner yesterday. I had a problem installing it. I made sure it was unlocked. But when the installation problem persisted I clicked unlock to lock. Finally after a few more attempts I managed to install it. Unfortunately, I think I might have broken it now because when I tried to do a test scan a message comes up saying that the scanner is still locked and it isn't. Have I broken it? Should I just give up trying? Would be really grateful if anyone has the answer to this. At least if I know it's broken I can give up altogether! Many many thanks. Janet

Thanks to the two who came up with some suggestions. Unfortunately they haven't worked. I think I will have to give up. It's strange because it switches on and starts making a noise like it's going to scan then the question comes up saying that the scanner is locked and make sure it is unlocked. Oh well, thanks again. Turn off your computer/unlock your scanner (if it is still in locked position)/ turn off your scanner and unplug it. wait a few minutes. /Plug the scanner back in/start your computer. Is the scanner now unlocked?
(byw, did you feel as if you had broken the lock/unlock switch?)
If your scanner is not working you should probably do an uninstall/reinstall of the scanner. Do you have the original disc? This fresh install might solve your problem. Be sure to turn off all running programs while you uninstall and reinstall including your virus control.

Shut the computer down. This makes sure the message is cancelled Unplug scanner. move the lock to -unlock plug scanner in restart compute tell us what happens

I don't know how useful this is, but I say, as you just got it, take it back.
Scanner can be defective.
Ask the store to replace it with a new one, try again and see if that works.
If it does, you probably had a defetive scanner.
Make sure to unistall the old drivers before you re-install. Restart the machine after you unistall the drivers.

this is comman problem with lower end scanner and you say its new purchase plz go for the warranty replacement its only solution and if you can open the scanner cover its is possible to check the physical condition for the lock and some time the belt in these scanner is not fixed properly may give this problem
before opening plz power off scanner and press the cover lock gentelly so may not brake them
also check for the warranty term with manufacturer for replacement
