GE Monogram ZDI15C Automatic Icemaker Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jun 05, 2011

Our automatic ice maker will not quit dripping in the freezer. It keeps clogging the ice maker with icicles and large blocks of ice. Essentially, it keeps "freezing over." We have defrosted it all, cleaned it out, and restarted it twice. It keeps happening! Within about 4-6 hours it already starts happening again. Any advice?

My GUESS here is going to be YOUR FLAPPER door is not closing properly...

99 times out of 100 it is a PIECE of ICE stuck in the chute holding the ICE-DOOR from closing and ALLOWING WARM room air into the ICE BIN... causing thaw... water... sticky cubes... water flow
( inside & outside the FREEZER.. AND LOTS of other ISSUES ).

Check the ice-chute-door:
clear, clean & make sure it closes

ELSE: replace it!!

Just my thoughts!

Happy hunting

If it keeps filling and overflowing you have a bad water valve on the back of the fridge.the part number is WR57X10027 and the valve is around 75 dollars.first thing lift the arm or shut off the ice maker so it won't leak anymore, you're missing a few letters off of the model number so when you call your parts store give them the full model number, open the fridge door, look up on the right hand side wall up near the ceiling and give them the model number to make sure you get the correct valve, shut off the water supply to the fridge, then have the new valve next to the old valve when you remove a water line from the old valve just connect it to the new valve,do this until everything is changed out and the new valve is in place, turn on the water supply and you can check the ice maker to make sure it doesn't overflow.you can manually start the ice maker by grabbing the plastic arms of the ice maker and pull them forwards slowly until the arms start to advance on their own, you'll hear the water valve fill the ice maker and then you can watch it fill to see if the water is filling it correctly and i'm sure you'll be fine with the new water valve installed

http://fixitnow.com/wp/2009/12/27/manual... copy and paste,it will show you how to advance the ice maker, also there should be a screw on the ice maker that you can turn to let more water fill into the ice maker or to let less water into the ice maker,if you didn't touch this then most likely your problem is the water valve but you can check this first,if it doesn't help change out the water valve.

Our refrigerator just suddenly started to make this loud grinding sound..it appears to be coming from the freezer side. I turned off the ice make and reduced the freezer temperature but it still keeps...

This could be a failure of the evaporator fan. Also maybe some ice has formed from water dripping from the ice maker and had now produced an icicle which could be hitting the fan blade of the evaporator motor. Remove back cover to the freezer/fan and check the fan operation while it is running.

GE refrigerator, ice melts in ice bin

Since your refrig is cooling , I would replace the # 4 AND # 5 thermistors . The # 4 thermistor , tells the main control board , the temp of the coils , if they need defrosted , when they are thru defrosting . This thermistor is the 1 " long , torpedo looking piece , clipped on the top left of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . It would be advisable to also replace the # 5 thermistor , located at the bottom of the freezer , slightly in front of the drain , also with 2 white wires going to it , slid into a housing . This thermistor , is the freezer thermistor , which tells the control board , the freezer temp , when to cycle off , associated with the fan speed also .

Icicle are forming around icemaker port inside of freezer compartment drips seem to come from around inmaker feed water area.

The water inlet valve on the back of the unit where the water supply comes in can have a slow leak and will cause ice to buildup and block the fill tube. Disconnect the ice maker line from the valve and watch to see if it has a slow drip. It doesn’t take much to eventually block the fill tube.

Icemaker leaking causing icicles

Is it overfilling with water? If so, it may be an problem with the fill valve leaking slightly. I say slightly because if it were a large leak, the freezer would have frozen puddles in it. Also check the water chute to be sure the water is all going into the freeze tray. Sometimes they can work loose.

If the seam is leaking, there could be a crack in the housing - not sure that's repairable - sometimes epoxy will work (5 minute, 2 part) but it can be difficult for glue to hold on the type of plastic used in an ise maker housing.
