I paid all most 300.00 2 years ago for the xbox 360 with all extras, meaning memory. i very rarely play it.always left it plugged in . i hooked it up to xbox live last month for the first time. Tried it once but, didn't like it. So I unhooked it from the internet and now my gray power box is overheating and shutting itself down. The gray power box got so hot that I unplugged it and cooled it down and upon rehooking it up it started working again. I also tried putting the fan next to it to keep it cool but, it happened again. What steps should I take?

contact Microsoft and get them to repair it -- if you bought new and its 2-4 years old, you can call them to have it sent to their repair facility www.mic
WITH PS3 AND XBOX 360 ALWAYS ADD AN EXTRA COOLING FAN AS THE FAN INSIDE IS JUST NOT ENOUGH.. THATS WHY MOST XBOX AND PLAY STATIONS SUFFER FROM YLOD AND RED LIGHT OF DEATH
The reason behind this was due to the console's unique encription which is being transmitted back to Microsoft whenever hooked up thru Xbox Live using a particular gamertag/profile was activated to avoid software duplication and/or any sort of software piracy. What you can do is to recover your gamertag into your own Xbox 360 and load the game RE5 and it DLC should work after that.
It is a compulsary update for your Xbox 360 system so it can support the feature you are trying to do. So you really might want to join to Xbox Live by creating an Xbox Live account and by signing in to Xbox Live, it will automatically install the latest firmware to update your system.
I had this same problem a year after I purchased my first Xbox 360.
Most of the time this problem is due to dust and dirt getting sucked
into the system by the terrible cooling system that the older Xbox 360s
have. If your Xbox 360 is over 2 years old then most likely this is
your problem. these Xboxes are made to stand up not lay down so if
yours is laying down try tilting it upright and play it that way. This
fixes the problem 80% of the time. You can also try to blow into some
of the openings on your Xbox to get the dirt and dust out but I must
admit this rarely works. If after trying both of these things you still
have the problem, then it must be fixed by opening up the Xbox and
determining the problem with the laser or disk drive. This costs time
and money so you better hope that my first two solutions work!
um dont have the modded xbox hooked to the internet online bro, they see what that one tag does when you go online to gain ur achevements. so my point is to have ur Acheicement points show up on ur gamertag or your profile for instance, it has to be legit, that other xbox must have some file thats not allowing to use it cause that other xbox still has its internet hooked up
i think
check that the wire coming from the xbox 360 elite to the tv is switched to hd, and the other end of the wire has the red and white for the sound pluged into the tv and that the red green and blue wires are pluged into the tv. also check to see if the hdmi cable to conected to the tv and xbox 360 elite.
