Well if it has a wire-ring problem i would buy another one but if it is just a problem with the speaker you might just need new batteries or a new speaker.

My son's Leapster Explorer suddenly has no sound. If you hit the increase sound button, nothing happens. If you hit the decrease button you see the volume bar on the bottom of the page. Do you know...

I had same problem, just fixed it by a little hack. The volume up switch is broken.
1. Remove accessory door on bottom. 2. Remove all screws on back. 3. Open back cover.
Looking at the exposed board, there are 2 volume switches (back to back). Directly next the switches are four contacts: the upper 2 are for volume down, the lower 2 are for volume up.
4. Place the battery pack on the board and hold it down. 5. Press the power button to turn on the unit. 6. Use a small wire to jump the volume up contacts multiple times to change the volume to maximum (or desired level). 7. (Optional) Remove the volume buttons and throw away the rubber cushions to prevent the volume from changing. 8. Replace everything back in place.

The volume button doesn't work on our leapster explorer. It shows that the volume is at the lowest point, but it will not increase so we can hear it. We tried replacing the batteries and that didn't...

The Leapster turns on and the sign in screen comes up but the touch screen does not work. Recalibrating does not work. Can't get past the sign in screen

How did you try recaibrating? I just fixed my son's Leapster 2 a few minutes ago. I read a couple different recalibration instructions and the one that works for the Leapster 2 is:
1-Hold down the (?) Hint button while turning on the system.
2-Keep holding it down until the Leapster menu shows up
3-Let it go and press the A button
4-Touch each crosshairs x with the pen tip
5-When it goes back to the menu screen, restart the unit

Make sure you have no game inserted
Press and hold down the 'on' button and 'hint' button (with questionmark on it) at same time until a menu appears on screen
Press A
Now touch all the little crosses with your pen that appear on the screen
switch leapster off and restart
if still not working, repeat above

Question Why doesn;t my Leapster2 respond to the stylus pen? trnsp.gif Answer If your Leapster2 does not respond to the stylus pen, it needs to be calibrated. Calibrating the Leapster2 is easy:
1) Ensure that a cartridge is not inserted 2) Hold down the Hint button while turning the unit on 3) When the LEAPSTER menu screen appears, press the A button 4) Touch each of the crosshairs that appear with the stylus 5) Restart unit
