Crown XLS 602 2-Channel Amplifier Logo

Before I ask, I know the risks involved in opening a high power amplifier. I know sending it to an authorized repair shop is the best (and most expensive, possibly more so than buying a new amp) option. I'd like to fix it myself if possible for several reasons. Now that I have that covered, my amp has been working fine. The other day it was running for a while and suddenly made a furious ticking sound (like a zapping sound). ALL FOUR lights on the front (Power, Fault, Clip 1, and Clip 2) flashed simultaneously with the sound. It lasted for maybe 2 seconds tops. Immediately following, the unit powered off. All four led indicators are off at this point (and have not turned back on at all since). Not enough time for me to turn it off, but I hit the switch a second later or so. I tried the circuit breaker just in case, but figured there's no way that was a breaker. Smelled a burning type of smell after all that too. I tried powering the unit on a couple minutes later: nothing. Tried again w/ speaker disconnected, new power cable and no input xlr: nothing again. Tried a day later just for s...n giggles with speakers plugged in and no input signal. Surprised me when the speaker started trembling a bit and I turned it off immediately. I've done some looking around the web for posts n such. The circuit breaker seems to be fine. Did not pop and when I measure the resistance I got .2 ohms. Seems to me the breakers fine. Same reading past the switch, so that's good. I just tried plugging it and turning it on for a brief second to see if the red leds on board light up and they don't. (figured) after a couple of seconds, I turned it off. Again noticed a burning smell coming from somewhere right around the power supply / transformer area. (pretty sure) Anyway, the speaker terminals seem to be ok on the ohm meter. Channel 1 comes up as about 280 kilo-ohms Channel 1 was the only channel being powered. Amp is being used to power a single subwoofer. Does that mean anything? Seems to me like that shouldn't be a problem, but I'm not sure. Channel 2 doesn't even produce a reading, so I think that's even better. I think I've included all the detail possible at this point. What are the next steps I should take in troubleshooting the components? I'm guessing it's maybe the transformer itself, since I'm pretty sure the amp has a soft start which normally makes a click when it turns on. That is not happening either. Silence, no LEDs are lit up, and last I checked it sends a slight thumping/trembling/low frequency signal to the sub-woofer. (not that I'm gonna try that again hahaha) Thank you in advance for anyone who can help me out with this. I do have a schematic, but I'm pretty sure there are several modifications of this amp with the same exact model number. Thank you everyone!

Hi,
When you heared or noticed any burnout components, most probably from the regulators/rectifiers/IC's/ voltage limiting dides/ etc,it means you're having a problem on your driver up main outputsection in your circuits ,you have to check steps by step,n most cases, like this HIGH POWER AMPLIFEIRs,its using a high wattage transistor/Mosfet particularly,
After replacing some faulty components,,Please,.kindly .do not connect immediately your expenssive speaker's,if you've 8ohms /50-100W dummyload parallel with your( ohmmeter on AC set), to monitor the ac abrupt dumping factor on the main output,
CAUTION;
When you noticed your amplifier is having a problem like poping sound/motorboating sounds/burned components and smell/trembling with low freq sound and etc,
Do not connect your speaker, specially HIGH POWERED OUTDOOR AMPLIFIERS just to avoid any damage or create fire, and extend some components damage on the circuits,
OPTIONS:
In deep repairing and troubleshooting in any electronic equipments, it needs complete diagnostic tools/schematics/techniques,...experience and observation sometimes is required,
IF YOU DONT HAVE IT,ITS BETTER TO BRING YOUR AMPLIFIER IN A SERVICE SHOP,
My friend,thanks and good luck,.

I have a 5002 Rockford fosgate amp in need of repair. Where can I send it to get fixed? I have my receipt and early repair papers where it has been fixed by the company. It is 1500 watts. Help!

contact the company and get a list of authorized repair agents close to your location
if there are none and it is out of warranty then find an accredited electronic repair shop and ask around to see if they have experience in your brand of unit

What battery is used in the wrist unit of the Polar F11

Take your watch to your nearest watch shop and ask them to do it for you.

You can get into difficulty replacing batteries and it is not worth the risk for the small cost saving.

I need a new power amp for a JBL PB12 Subwoofer

Alf, when there is no parts available you have to start looking at local non authorized repair shops that will inspect and repair the board instead of trying to source a replacement board.

This can be very difficult and could make for alot of expensive deposits. Running out of parts is an ongoing problem with all electronics and sometimes replacement is the most cost effective option.

Music was plating from ipod through speakercraft

Hello

If your amp is still undr warrenty, send it back, do not void warrenty. If it is already out of the warrenty period you can open the amp up untill you see the cicuit board. Now you trace the board to the sound channels, once here have a look at the capasitors, you will easily see if it has overheated. You can replace this yourself or take it to a repair shop where they will fix it for cheap.

But before you try this. Once the amp is opened up, locate the fuse and see if the fuse is still working properly.

If all else fail, take it to a repair shop and first get a qoute on how much it will cost you to fix and then decide if it is worth the money to fix. Please rate this.

Avalon 737 Pre Amp Repair (New York City)

If you are not looking for a warranty repair, any shop that handles high end audio repairs should be able to resolve this for you. Before you ship off the pre-amp, verify that it is, in fact, the pre-amp that is defective. The initial stage of the power amp can cause this as well. Try hooking up another pre-amp instead to verify the problem location.

Keep us posted,

Power to amp

It sounds like the power supply has failed (burnt smell). Any local shop that repairs car audio should be able to repair it. If you don't know which shops repair car audio, call the local car audio dealers and ask them who they send their amps to for service.
