You can only scan negatives on a scanner that has a second light source in the lid of a flat bed scanner. This light shines a light through the negative and the main light source under the glass is not switched on for negative scanning.

SOURCE: ADF not working

Open the document feeder and look for an obstruction.

Clean the roller and pad with isopropyl alcohol.

Also look for a switch actuator trapped down or knocked off.

How can I find out if there are digital scanners available for 2.25 square negatives.

Given the popularity of these films (Kodak 120 or 620, dependent upon size of hole in the spool) there are scanners available.

However, the negative is large enough that ordinary flat-bed scanners with a film attachment will be sufficient for scanning.

Does the HP photosmart 2710 scan negative ansd 35mm slides?

This multi function printer/scanner cannot scan 35mm slides and negatives.
Some flat bed scanners with a lighr scource that shines through 35 mm slides and negatives can scan them.
You will be better off getting a dedicated 35 mm slide/negative scanner.
Check out this WEB site foe slide scanners.

My scanner will not scan negatives

Most scanners aren't designed to scan negatives. (Of course the manufactures would never want to tell you their product CANT do something).

Flatbed scanners typically have a light on one side.

To scan negatives properly, you need to have a scanner that has a backlight, or a second light in the bed's lid that you fold down.

Canon USA, Inc. make a few flatbed scanners that have backlights. They range from $60 to $180, depending on the features and resolution you want to pay for.

Please see the below link. This is a more expensive one, but is shown just so you get the idea. In the pictures, note specifically in the picture that shows the lid open, how the white backing on the lid can be removed from a clip at the top. Underneath, is the backlight and clips designed to hold negatives in with the included frames.

I am looking for instructions on this product.

Step 1: Open the scanner lid and remove the Transparent Materials Adapter (TMA).
Step 2: Place your slides or negatives into the appropriate template. Follow the orientation indicated by the icons on the template.
Step 3: Tip: If you are scanning fewer than the maximum number of negatives with the TMA, cover the empty spaces with the provided light shields to avoid letting any extra light in
Step 4: Place the template on the scanner glass, aligning the arrow on the template with the indicated mark on the scanner bed.
Step 5: Close the scanner lid and press the Scan Film button (or select the Scan Film option if you're using the HP Solution Center application on your PC).
Step 6: In the Scanning from dialog box, click Change Settings.
Step 7: Under Scan Shortcut Settings, select your Scan Type (either Negatives (TMA) or Slides or Positives (TMA)).
Step 8: Under Scan To select Save to file. Then click Scan.
Step 9: Under the Save Location dialog box, click Browse and enter the destination folder of your choice. Click OK and follow any on-screen instructions to finish scanning. The scan will be sent to the destination folder you selected. s.gif s.gif

Scanner

The Canon CanoScan 8800F is an excellent scanner and will do what you want. The scanner driver includes a descreen feature which is to reduce the Moiré patterns that are common when scanning items such as magazines or other printed materials. This scanner is capable of scanning 35mm film negatives and positives including mounted slides. It is also capable of scanning 22cm x 6 Film Strip (120 roll film). There is zero warm-up time on the lamp. This means that the scanner is ready when you are. Other scanners may require 30 seconds to a minute or so to warm up.

Here is a link to the product page for this scanner.
