All i want to know is how to work it .i have never used one before

It depends on the model I guess, but usually a standard dehumidifier will have a a capture tank on the back that stores the water it has sucked up, now standard dehumidifiers will have a dial that allows you to control the rate of suction so that you can choose how much humidity you want to be in the air.

Dehumidifer runs constantly, but captures no water in bucket

There are 5 basic, yet solvable reasons for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2..

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%. If you have an analog unit no
LED Screen, set the humidity extraction knob on Maximum.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity Humid-i-stat has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

Hope this helps you to troubleshoot & solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I would appreciate if you could suggest some solution to this problem. I inadvertently pressed the temperature control minus button so the lowee reading went from 35 til ON. I would like to change it...

Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Wait 30 minutes and plug it back in. Turn the Master ON/Off Switch to ON. The controls should have reverted back to the original factory settings. You can now, set the controls as you like.

Hope this helped you solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Danby continuous water flow will not work on a dehumidifier it still fills the bucket

Please try the following:
1) Remove the bucket.
2) You will notice a round outlet/spout where the water drips from into the bucket.
3) Remove the plug from the backside of the unit (you will now see a hole to the bucket area).
4) Feed a hose through the hole from the back and attach the end of the hose to the round outlet/spout.
5) Place the other end of the hose on a floor drain outlet.
6) Put the bucket back into the unit.

When the unit is turned on, the water will now flow through the hose instead (into the floor drain). When you want to use the bucket again to capture the water, you will need to remove the hose.

I hope that helps.

Power OFF button doesn't work; unit keeps running, overflows, and doesn't stop

I have the same problem! The "pcb" referred to in the previous reply is undoubtedly what Sears refers to as the "COVER ASSEMBLY, DISPLAY", part number 3551A20109B. It is possible, but highly unlikely, that the defective part is the ESCUTCHEON, p/n 3831A20079D. Sears lists the cost of the COVER ASSEMBLY, DISPLAY as $17.25 plus, undoubtedly shipping and tax. The part seems to be available only from the Sear Web Site under "PArts Direct". This dehumidifier is a piece of garbage. I previously had to replace the SENSOR ASSEMBLY, p/n 6877A30013L. This item turns off the unit when the water tank is full. This dehumidifier has my room flooded - twice - when the unit failed to turn off and overflowed.

While under waranty Sears/Kenmore attempted to repair the unit five times. They never succeeded and when the warranty ran out they would not repair the unit unless I paid for it. Thats when I started doing my own repairs!

Slight beep but no action/can't get the back off

I had the same problem (minus the cover issue) . To get the cover off, take off all visible screws. Slide a small screwdriver into the space between the back and the side cover. You will see a slight opening where the tabs fit in, you will need to carefully pry the tabs out. However, most likely your problem is with the front panel. You take the front panel off much the same way. 2 screws are concealed by the bucket. I had the same beep no display, thought it was the main pcb, which I ordered and installed. That did not fix it. I cleaned the display pcb, and jiggled the buttons, that seemed to fix it. I think the button to increase the humidity was stuck closed, as I could replicate the problem by holding that button down and then plugging in the dehumidifier. I would start by cleaning or replacing the front panel pcb, which is about $14.
