Either call Sony >> and see if they can fix this problem. It may be an internal error. You may just need a new battery.

Or return to the store you bought it from >> Tell them about this, and they should replace the device no problem seeing as it is an internal error and not your fault.

Good luck!

I haven't turned the camera on for a couple of years. I've tried charging the battery, but I can't get it to power up. Do I need to replace battery or is it something else?

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Revive drill driver battery packs

Rechargeable batteries do have a lifespan, they won't recharge forever. If you have fully discharged the batteries then fully recharged them and they still don't have full power or they only last a couple minutes then they are done. If they won't charge or the charger shows them as defective, the only fix is to replace them.

Won't switch on. Was working fine; battery running low so removed it to recharge as I have done many times before. On reinstalling battery the camera is completely dead.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

Some batteries never recover from an over discharge condition. When you connect it for charging it will show recharging indication but won't soak up any charge. Only way out is to replace the battery especially if its more than 2 year old when you over discharged it.Over discharging is when your battery voltage drops below 30% of its full voltage.
