My 2nd generation iPod Touch fell in the toilet (clean water), I quickly grabbed it out, so it was only in there a few seconds. I have never experienced any water damaged devices, so I foolishly turned it off and back on. It started up fine, then the screen started to flicker, then the backlight went out. However, the touch screen was still responsive. After about a minute it froze. I just left the battery to run out and sat it on the radiator. In the morning, after endless googling, I buried it in rice for 4 days. Still no hope after a few attempts of powering on. The iPod will not charge or be recognized on a computer what so ever. I left it on my docking station, in the hope it would take in some charge. Today I pressed the home button and the iPod said 'connect to itunes' and then went to sleep. The backlight seemed to be working. I tried connecting to iPod, but again no response. What can I do now? Thanks

I hate to say this, once you turned it on, it probably shorted internally due to water on the iPod's printed circuit board. iPods and iPhones have a water sensor inside the headphone jack so that a tech can see if it's been submerged. Setting it on the radiator was probably not a good idea either. I don't think the standard Apple warranty covers water damage, but if you got AppleCare, you might be able to get a replacement. In the future, the thing to do is to immediately turn off your submerged device, and plunge in a bowl of rice for a couple of days. Additionally, if it got dropped in the ocean (I know it didn't), it's probably totally hosed. Salt in ocean water tends to crystallize out when it dries and can completely damage printed circuit boards.

What generation this iPod is serial number 1A009QC075J

iPods come in a variety of generations and models, including the nano, Classic and Touch. Depending on your model you may be able to record video, play games or watch television.
If you're unsure of your device's model, you can determine which iPod you have by using your serial number.
After determining your model, you can find out which features and capabilities your iPod has.

Go to Apple's official website (see Link Below) and click the Support tab.
http://www.apple.com/
Click the Online Service Assistant link, which is located in the Support Services menu on the right side of the screen.
The Service and Repair page will open.
Find your iPod's serial number.
This is engraved somewhere on the back of your iPod, either on the body of the device or on the clip.
You can also find it in your iPod's About screen by clicking Settings and selecting About (or General followed by About on an iPod Touch).
Enter your iPod's serial number and click the "Continue" button.
Your iPod model and generation will be displayed at the top of the screen.

I was given an i pod shuffle as a gift from a friend but when i went to apple support the i pod had been disabled. how do i fix it so that i can put my own apple itunes on. thanks anne marie

To reset iPod shuffle:
  1. Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
  2. Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position. Note that when iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible. ht1655_1.gif ht1655_2.gif ht1655b_3.gif ht1655--4th_shuffle-001-en.png
    1st generation 2nd generation 3rd generation 4th generation
  3. Wait five seconds. For iPod shuffle (3rd and 4th generation), wait ten seconds.
  4. Move the switch to the play in order or the shuffle position. The green stripe will be visible in either position. For iPod shuffle (2nd and 4th generation), slide the power switch on (and you can see the green stripe).

So my ipod fell in the toilet about three days ago and it works and all but the light doesn't turn on! and the button in the middle (to got back) doesn't aether. what can i do !!? oh and it had a cracked...

The cracked screen means you need to change the screen but since this unit is somewhat water tight the damage done is less. But it will be good to have the unit dried properly , the circuit board cleaned of any moisture or dirt and the display changed. The water or dirt logging is making the button inactive and hence the cleaning must be done without delay.

Ipod touch (2nd Gen) with water damage

The touch screen is not physically attached to the screen, if water was anywhere near the bottom of the ipod it may have triggered the water damage unit inside the bottom. Water also may have leaked into the unit frying the circuits. You'll have to visit an Apple store or Apple.com/support for repair.

Get your iPod in a bag of rice, and keep it there for maybe a few days, it should **** out all the moisture, hopefully it wasn't on when it was dropped in, but give it a shot.
