I have a Toro 8-32 briggs and stratton Engine Riding Lawn Mower. I have alot of mowers, this one specifically is not functioning correctly. I have ALWAYS kept up to date on oil changes, gear oil, tune ups, belts, Etc. I bought a new spark plug, degrease the ENTIRE engine and assembly, New Belts, New Tires, Etc. It worked just fine 2 days ago, I went to start it today, and it didn't make a sound, needless to say prior to me starting it, I sprayed EVERYTHING down, well after it dried again, I tried to start it and finally it turned over but it wont completely start up and run. So I changed the gas, used carb cleaner and cleaned the carb and the jets. Still wouldn't start, I sprayed some starter fluid in the card intake, still wouldn't start... I looked online, NO HELP AT ALL! I was thinking of maybe pulling it with my truck and maybe jump starting itr in gear... not sure how successful that may be, but its worth a try. I need help finding out WHY this is happening and yes of course help starting it. BUT, Should this problem ever occur on any of my other equipment i'll have an upper hand as to a possibility of the problem.

SOURCE: 2 1/2 Briggs......doesn't run smoothly....surges at all speeds.

Hi, Check that you have the correct spark plug fitted or fit a new one as it sounds like your plug is getting hot then shorting out.
Sometimes the magnito can do this as well. but I would start with the plug.

SOURCE: engine drags while trying to start

It may be a problem with the camshaft-compression release. Some of the Briggs & Stratton models had a weak spring on the compression release whis is parts of the camshaft. you may also want tocheck that all wires are clean and tight. Also if it's a over head valve model check the valve clearance.

Toro 20450 Recycler Mower with a B&S Model 12V engine...how many ounces of oil does it require

Most all of the smaller Briggs and Stratton mower engines require 20 ounces of oil. Use SAE 30 and I suggest using the Briggs Brand or synthetic. If you use synthetic, you can get away with using a multi-viscosity oil like 10-30W. But if using plain old automotive conventional oil, definitely SAE 30W only.
