Hi If
you have connected correctly and the ribbon cable is also fine then it seems
that the touch pad is bad and should be replaced. Hope this
helps...please post back for further assistance. Daniel
First, double check your connections against the wiring diagram in the back of the range, especially for the fan and oven light. Look for labels printed on the board next to the terminals and match them with the diagram. For example, you may see a YEL/BLK wire going to F1 on the board on the diagram, meaning the yellow wire with the black stripe should be connected to the F1 terminal. If you find any discrepancies, make a note of them, then correct the connections. If it still doesn't work, you may have damaged the board. I assume the clock lights up correctly since you do not mention a completely dead board.
The touch pad typically uses a Flat Flexible Circuit (FFC) to connect to the control board. Most of these use a locking collar or latching plate to secure them to the connector. These parts are attached to the connector shell on the control board, and are in most cases a different color than the connector shell. The collar is a rectangular frame on top of the shell; the FFC goes into the slot on top of the collar. To insert the FFC, pull the collar up to the stop on both ends, slide the FFC in, and while holding the FFC in place, push the collar down to lock the connector. The latching plate is rarely used in appliances; it's for space-limited situations where the FFC needs to go in parallel to the board. It flips up on tiny hinges to unlock and is pushed back down to lock it.
Contact alignment on FFC connections is critical. Try reconnecting using the directions in the preceding paragraph. It may be necessary also to clean the contacts on the FFC with a soft white pencil eraser; however since none of the buttons work, I don't think this is the issue. One thing to check: if the FFC ribbon is long enough to get turned around, look for markers - typically the numeral 1 will be printed by one edge of the FFC; it corresponds with the end of the connector that has a 1 printed by it on the board. If there are contacts on only one side of the FFC ribbon, check verify that side is mated with the contacts inside the connector shell.
It is possible somebody messed up and sold you a "reconditioned" unit that did not actually get repaired. That's why dealers have warranties.
Today I replaced the clock/control panel. Everything works well EXCEPT ---- the Cancel/Off button does not work. Before replacing the clock/control panel, this button was "difficult" (I often had to press several times to get it to work, while the other buttons worked with only one touch. Of course, I could not see any displays with the clock/control panel out). Any suggestions? I cleaned the ribbon with an eraser - and it seemed to need it. Ribbon seems very brittle. Am I missing something, or is there a way to replace the touchpad itself (found online references to the touch pad layers separating...is that what has happened to my Cancel/Off button?)?
