I've plugged my left and right rca plugs into the back of the Onkyo and have speakers hooked up but only getting sound out of the center speaker and subwoofer. I have it set to surround sound. Could it be my dvd player? Should any dvd player with rca right and left connection work for this receiver? Mine is a Onkyo audio/video control tuner amp model TX-SV535
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,

My receiver only works in the Bypass Mode for all the attached units. TV1, TV2, CD & DVD Hookups only work in the Bypass mode. As soon as I select any of the Dolby Pro Logic modes I get complete silence. Any help would be appreciated. You can E-Mail to [email protected]

When the stereo or mono listening mode is selected only front speaker and subwoofer produce sound--------make sure that speakers are configured correctly. and you select surround sound in listening mode.

from the problem description, it sounds like a wiring/setup problem with the speakers. check to make sure you are only using the main 'a' front r & l speaker connectors. if you select speaker set a + b on the front, you will not have the rear channels. please see the speaker connection guidelines in the manual on page 13-15. make sure the audessey mike and/or headphones are not plugged in when trying to use the speaker set up function.
6.1 would have just one back there (SB). It defaults to the Left output on the Pre-Outs if you ever go that route.
This being a 6.1 receiver it does not support two SB channels BUT you can configure those amp channels for a separate Zone supporting 2 speakers. Confused?
The manual shows a single SB speaker connected to the left side on Page 27. THAT would be consistent with a 6.1 configuration.
The rear speakers will only work when the Dolby signal processor or one of the 4 sound fields has been selected. In other words, the rear speakers won't "work" when listening in just Stereo, and this can happen if the "By-Pass" button on the front of the receiver has been engaged.
Hello, I am sorry for your issue. Please go to replacementremotes.com and search txsv525. They do sell a replacement. If you email me at [email protected] and I will send you a copy of the manual. Thank you. Onkyo USA
Hello, the setting must be "Not Activated" That is for zone 2 setup. If you are setting up 5 speakers the rear speakers should be connected to surround not surround back. Thank you Onkyo USA.
Speaker relays have oxide on the contact points. Open up all the speaker, spk, relays and remove the oxide layer formed on the 12 contact points. Those 3 relays are on the spk terminal board. You can located it easily. It just mounted next to spk output, a horizontal board.
I just connected the front main speakers and sound well, but when i
connect the speakers (2 fr, 2 rear, 1 ctr) there`s no sound in any
surround mode from any source.
I just read over the problem you were having with your Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver. It sound like the unit needs to be setup for all five channels.Sence your symptom says the diplay shows Dolby D3/2.1.
According to the owners manual with the remote control look for speaker setup whin the button is pressed the current speaker setup will be shown in the display. Press the preset/adjustment<> to change the current setting to five speakers. the listening mode will automatically change according to the number of channels you selected.
Hope this helps.

So your saying that you have no rear channel. Some recivers use a single stereo output ic for both sides on the rear speakers. you could have a defect with this IC . Anther thing Im sure you check3ed the obvious ie : the switch is on suround sound? If there is a front to rear fader is it in the middle? Good Luck
