Most often fuel leaking out the carb is caused by a needle and seat problem in the carburetor / the float level shaft screw may have come loose due to the vibration of the engine ,this will cause a leak issue with the needle and seat as well. To complete the repair the carb will have to be removed and cleaned. Replace the needle and seat if necessary an then replace the carb.

Steelcraft generator 3300 watt Gas tank shut off

The floater of the carburator is bad(Needle). its leaking gas at the carburator and the gas is coming inside the engine at piston intake valves.
Replace carburator needle that stops the intake of gas at the Carburator.

Gas leaking into carburator when shut down.

replace the needle and seat as they are not doing the job. Also you can purchase a small fuel tap and place it in the fuel line to turn off when you have finished.

Carburator leaks gas when cycle is started or running from what looks like vent hose?

Sounds to me like your float valve is obstructed by some debris. This is causing it to stay open and leak fuel. Better it leaks to your vent hose than it leaks in your engine and contaminates your oil.

You need a proper carb cleaning. Not some run in the gas tank sh*t. If the tank wasn't full when parked, chances are there is rust in the fuel system to get this out you need to disassemble the carburetor and thoroughly clean it.

Try not to ride the bike til you do this. It's a fire hazard.

Where is the fuel shut off valve

Powermate generators usually have a shutoff mounted to the bottom of the fuel tank. There is a knob at the bottom of the connector where the hose is attached to the fuel tank. Screwing it in (clockwise) shuts off the fuel.

Gas leak from carburetor into bottom of air intake elbow. Filled empty gas tank and within seconds after opening the shutoff valve under tank, gas started to drip from bottom of intake elbow. Shut off the...

It sounds like the needle valve in the carburetor is not seating properly to shut off the fuel. A badly worn needle or dirt/debris in the needle seat area can cause this. Disassembly of the carb and a good cleaning will be required.

Gasoline in mixed with oil in the crankcase also oil pouring out from the valve cover. Runs rough and smokes badly. What are the possible causes?

Gasoline in the oil is indication of fuel leaking past the needle and seat when the engine is not running (also high pressure in the fuel tank). You may be able to continue to use the generator with weak needle and seat (change oil) , however you must shut off the fuel when the engine is off. Easy fix however by installing carb kit. Find model number of the engine (stamped on fan cover) and contact small engine repair shop or look on line. Do not run the engine with gas in oil. Good luck.

My 15,000 watt generator has very little hours, will crank, but won't stay running! drained gas, put clean fuel in still will crank , but shuts off! If you turn the gas vavle down on the tank ,it will run...

Its most likely the float, the fact that turning the fuel shutoff on full makes it die tells me its flooding out, and the fuel shutoff partially turned off is just regulating the fuel flow in place of the float. Time to take apart the carb and give it a good clean, if its running well otherwise with the shutoff partially off then its most likely just a sticking or bad float or float valve. You might be able to get away with taking just the bowl off the carb, pulling the float off by removing its pivot pin and cleaning the needle valve and use a q-tip soaked in some carb cleaner and clean up in where the needle valve goes, because it could be gunk built up on the end of the needle valve or up in the needle valve seat causing fuel to keep flowing past it. Also while your cleaning it put the float in a small container of gas for a while and make sure it doesnt sink! If it does it has a hole, but you should also notice the float has fuel in it when you shake it. Most newer engines now have plastic floats, and they don't usually spring a leak like the older brass/copper ones, but its still worth checking.

Long story short, yes, you most likely have a float/needle valve issue.

What steps do I take to get a Yamaha EF1000 gas powered electric generator going again after it has been sitting around for years with gas in the tank? How do I drain the gas from the tank and carburater?...

You can disconnect the fuel line from the carb and drain the gas. It would be even better to then remove the fuel tank. If this is the generator with the large plastic tank, quite often the rubber gromet in the bottom of the tank with shout off vavle in it will deteriorate into a black gooey mess, and leak. If so that will have to be replaced. Clean inside of tank with fresh gasoline. Remove bowl from carburator and clean throughly. If you know how to work on engines, remove the carburator and clean throughly, notice how all springs and linkage were connected before removeal. Be sure all passage ways in carb are clean. Always use sta-bill in your gas.

I tried to start my new coleman powermate 6250/5000,

Do check the oil after it has tried to start. Low oil cutoff would certainly cause the problem. Look for the "lost" fuel shutoff valve... there usually is one.
