Re: Our rear speakers aren't working properly. Although...
Well that proves the hardware works. Crack the manual for the unspecified model and see why the source selected or the sound mode selected don't utilize those speakers.
I've read through manual to try to find a solution to the problem without success. The model is the ht305su.I've read through manual to try to find a solution to the problem without success. The model is the ht305su.

Check to see if the unit is getting unusually hot. If it is, check the impedance of the speakers and speaker wires to make sure they aren't shorted, or close to shorted (ie - partially blown speaker). Try running the unit with the speakers detatched to see if it still happens. If the unit gets hot with no speakers and goes into overload, then we need to start checking the components inside. Look for electrolytic capacitors that are bulged at the top, or that have discolored the circuit board at their base (leaking). Any caps doing this will need to be replaced, and will likely solve the issue. If there aren't any, or if that doesn't solve the issue, start checking the transistors at the output. Look to see if there is a DC voltage riding on them, and make sure they aren't shorted out. If the power amp is a hybrid chip, see if you can find one cheap and replace it if you can't see anything else wrong, or if one of the hybrids is overheating a lot.
the sound on utube is only stereophonic, hence you will get only stereo putput. If you play anything recorded as quadraphonic or above all your speakers will give sound output.
Sounds like you're having issues with the mode door motors/actuators for the rear air. There are several "mode doors" that regulate the temperature and flow of the air throughout the vehicle. If theses aren't functioning correctly then you can get strange air flow like you're describing. These are generally very time consuming for a rear A/C unit. Unless you're really handy and want to try it yourself - I'd recommend taking it to your local trusty automotive repair facility so they can fully diagnose the issue and recommend a course of action for you.
I think what is happening is that your soundsystems settings are set up to use a 5.1 surround and
when media like a standard stereo (2 channel) CD is placed into the player it doesn't have the extra channels. Your system should have settings to change between standard stereo mode and
advanced sound modes like Dolby 5.1 and DTS. Once the system is se to match the media its playing it should work fine.
Hi, the test tone should be the definitive test of all channels. Yes it is a little rare for the rear channels to go out. My advice is to buy a new receiver. They have gone down in price considerably over the past few years. I would think to repair it it will be at least a hundred dollars-versus a brand new one for nearly the same price. So long story short, I don't think you can disable the test tone feature with any button on the remote. Be sure to ask your local repair shop to give you a " ballpark " estimate on the repair cost if they can to aid you in your decision making. I hope this was helpful, please comment back to us and let me know, good luck-Prodzilla.
I recommend going to the sound icon on bottom of main screen, right click, go to the properties and settings. Make sure the system is set for the same amount of speakers as you have. You can also use the test button and see if the settings are correct. Make sure you are using the correct audio decoder or ac3 filter
Try this on your rceiver to see if it corrects your problem .If not make sure rear speakers are activated and properly connected
