Need to add 'freon' to my samsung window unit.

why are you adding freon ---if you do not know what your doing around freon [ not like adding to a vehicle ] you can seriously inure you or someone else as well as damaging a unit that may not have needed freon ]-- to add freon to a system you need correct freon -set of gauges -- tap a line valve port --but before you add will need to locate and fix leak --then hook up a vacuum pump --to test fix and get all moisture in lines out must hold at 30 inch vac to boil off moisture if holds for at least 20 to 30 min then can start adding freon then turn on unit and start charging it

This type of unit don't need much Freon but if it known leak yes fit it and add Freon as factory spec

Window units do not come with service ports. You can buy them at local parts houses, but unless you have the freon, not gonna do you any good. Window ac use either r22 our 410a, and that cannot be bout without being certified.

unless you are licensed to handle freon don't. there are some big fines for releasing freon. also if you are not experienced there are safety concerns!!! Is this a home hvac or car? Now with that said you have to add it on the suction side of the compressor.You will need to know the correct type of freon that goes in your unit which can be found on a tag on the unit. You will also need a set of ref. gages to monitor the low and high pressure sides of the unit. it also needs to be added to the outside unit service ports (Home). You need a set of ref scales so you know how much ref is being added. Too much ref and you start pumping liquid. Too little ref and it doesn't cool like it should. If its a car you still need the above equipment. still goes in the suction side.If you add to much ref you can lift the safety pressure valve and dump the freon in the car system. Each type of ref has a pressure you want to see on the suction side and hp side. since they differ with each type ref. you will have to look it up possibly on the internet. If suction pressure goes below 32 degrees you may freeze any condensate the unit makes and have another problem. Hope this helps you but its not as simple as hooking up a ref cylinder and just adding freon. their are many thing that can go wrong and damage equipment or hurt yourself.safety is the first priority.

Hello, Thank You for using FixYa. I will be helping you today. The only time you add freon to an AC unit is if you find a leak and repair it! If its not cooling well you should just clean the front and rear coils.

Generally, no. It's not normally a DIY project. Unless you have all the equipment (evaporator pump to remove and capture any freon (Now,R14) that's still in the unit, The high and low pressure gauges, etc). It's best left to the pros, as the unit may not be low on R14 gas. It may very well be a condensing sensor that has failed. Kent, there are a few times, when it's best left to the pros. And this is one of them. Especially, since yours is a 220 unit.

You have to put a piercing valve on the sucction side because this units don't come with service port, but if you going to add freon ,it is better to fix the leak before and after that replace the drier and vacum the system.

most window units do not have service valves they do make quick taps that clamp on lines and pierce sor serviceing these units

IF ITS NOT BLOWING COLD OR FREEZING UP TRY TO TAKE IT APART AND CLEAN IT WINDOW UNITS VERY VERY RARELY NEED FREON
