I was in the same boat, so I decided to share my experience. If you are still in search of a proper web design tool for your site creation, I'd recommend checking the reviews. They allow to compare the top software and make the choice. I personally found one here https://www.webbuildersguide.com/best-website-builder/ to be useful.
Now-a-days creating a website is easy. There are many options with which you can create a website. If you want to do it yourself, you can learn from an online tutorial which helps a lot. When I was first creating my website I found a very interesting tutorial that is simple website tutorials: How to make your own website, here I found a great help for creating websites. They provide information regarding building websites, creating a domain name, hosting website and much more.
The best way and the easiest way to create a site is through templates. creating a site using templates doesn't require any programming knowledge. you can buy the templates from a vendor and create a site. i created my site by this method only. i bought templates from here. XnYnZ you can also try this site to get the templates.
I'm glad you decided to take this leap! If you mean a website for the world wide web, then read on, but if not, wait for next response.
Creating a website can be undertaken in two ways: HTML code/javascript,or with software like Expression Web (formally frontpage) and webstarts.
The way I prefer to make a website is to use software, and I use webstarts, and their web page is here.
You can also get online website editors from here:

If you don't want to use the software via internet, you can use Microsoft's Expression Web:
Buy on amazon
Or you can look through all the different editors on cnet's webpage:
Windows
mac
If you want to code (can take years to learn, but the websites will look better), you can use tutorials online and books to help you learn:

After you learn HTML, you can learn java script and other essential codes.
It may take a while, but it can be worth it.
With HTML, you still need someone to host your site. You can find hoster's by doing a Google search, but I know webstarts hosts HTML in "HTML only mode".
If you are a visual learner like I am, you can go onto YouTube and search everything you have trouble with. I would still use the websites as a simple guide, and then do a YouTube search all the things you have trouble with.
You can also make money with Amazon affiliate programs:

And Google ads:

You can sell products with Paypal, too.
