RE: Sensory Science DDV9556 VCR Along with TV & DVD Player, The Unit was plugged into a Surge Protector - but when a brief power outage occurred, the Sensory Science DDV9556 VCR showed no Power. TV & DVD Player work fine. (1)I disconnected the DDV9556 dual vcr from the TV. (2) I plugged unit-only into the wall outlet - and still get no power. (3) I removed the top/case, and I found that a Video tape is also stuck & not easy to remove. Is there something simple that I should be able to do to bring this VCR back to life? If I take it to a Repair Center, what should I expect is the problem and how much shold I expect to pay.

I have exactly the same problem-tapes will not eject on either deck and I keep getting "ERROR" on front display. I've been asking for help on this for awhile now. I've taken the cover off and can't make sense of anything inside. Is there a video or manual available somewhere where there are pictures describing/showing the parts involved, so I can make sense of it and not ruin anything? Thanks!

Sounds like the chipboard has blown. You could try pulling the unit apart and see if there is a burn on it not always easy to see but if there is you may as well buy a new one. If not it maybe the power supply regulator has blown which is more likly and this can be replaced but is expencive to do.

The best way to go would be to get a VCR with a USB and connect it to a PC. You can get programs such as Magix from Amazon that will restore the pctures and then put them on a DVD or even Blue-Ray drive.

For the ghosting, the first thing to check is the cables. Try new A/V cables and make sure that they are well seated in both sets of jacks. If changing the cables doesn't help, I suspect that the connection between the video jack and the input board has a problem. This may be correctable if you can solder and are willing to open up the unit. You would need to remove the old solder and then resolder the joint. Alternatively, see if the input board is available from somewhere and just replace it. You need to read the part number off the board and google that part. (My usual source doesn't list this device but the parts are often shared.)

(This assumes the Sony DVD/VCR unit is compatible with providing a signal to a second VCR. Some are not and you may have gotten lucky with the previous Go Video unit.)
