Hi there,
I don't think you can fix it because once the case is opened dust inters the paters and turns your hard drive to trash. You may be able to get help at Seagate.
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/about/contact_us/ They can recover data but it will cost you.I would chat with them because they offer complimentary support as well. I hope you have some luck but as soon as you opened the back you voided the warranty.Hard drives a are put together in a dust free room called a clean room.ThankYou for choosing FixYa.com.
Hello, there are many recovery services around the world that can do a recovery for you, the bad thing is recovery services are not cheap, if the information you have is very important and you're willing to pay at least 600$ to recover your data, you can get to a business arrangement with any of these "recovery services", google for "data recovery services", the repair option can be done, but you have to use a new hard drive of the same brand and model, you have to have the proper tools to disassemble it and put the disks in the new case, it's not an easy task, you have the choice at the end.
Have a nice day.
That black thingy is the power connector , it cannot be repaired or replaced since it's part of the board of the disk.
If you cannot make it work long enough to recover your files then the only thing you can do is to find out another exact same model of disk and swap its board.
Master/Slave designation is determined by jumpers on IDE drives. Most drives have adequate markings on them to identify these jumper positions. If not marked clearly, you will need the manufacturer's data to determine that designation.
