Icemaker has always been slow. It produces ice, just a couple or 3 times a day. We have to keep our old fridge running just to get enough ice... Cubes are full size, freezer is 0 degrees, not much opening/closing.

If your icemaker is producing ice, but it is slow, there are 2 likely explanations.
1. Temperature. Water freezes at 32 deg, but the icemaker won't eject the ice until it gets below 10 degrees. If you always had good ice output and all of a sudden it has slowed down, you're temperature is a little higher than ideal. Check for a door seal not making good contact or try dropping the temp in the FREEZER side a couple degrees
2. New model. Most new refrigerators make ice much slower than older models to meet energy efficiency guidelines. This is not a repairable issue.

Make sure the arm on the icemaker is in the down position,if it is up and locked in place the icemaker is off. If it is down and the icemaker is turned on,each time it got cold enough the to cycle the icemaker(usually about a hour) the icemaker started and for 7 years power was sent to the water inlet valve to fill the icemaker and the icemaker side of the water valve is burnt up. The water valve has 1 inlet teh house water supply attaches to and 2 outlets 1 for icemaker and 1 for door dispenser

This is the procedure but yours seems to be a faulty Icemaker and needs to be replaced since your freezer is cold enough to make ice rapidly.

Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
This can cause slow ice making if its too high even tho its freezing everything else at 25 degrees
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects thenyou need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking same part needs replaced.The water valve at the bottom rear of fridge.

The icemaker thermostat is going bad.
Replace the icemaker.

Pour about 1/2 cup of water into icemaker . Squeeze the black fill tub which is above the icemaker cup . If ice apears to be in it , this indicates that the weter valve is not completely closing , letting a drip ocasionally go thru and freezing inside the tube , ( water valve bad ) . that will be a different solution . If the icemaker dumps the cubes after freezing . and black tube is not frozen , replace the water inlet valve . If the icemaker does not dump the ice after frozen , replace the icemaker ( only 1 screw holds the icemaker in , located on rear portion on right , faceing down . Also check the icemaker rake , which should be about the 2:30 position . To thaw out the black tube (which runs thru the top of the refrig ) a 1/4 push on connector will be needed . Remove the icemaker and use a hairdryer aimed up into the hole . Cut the tubing to the fill tub behind the fridge about 9 inches from where it enters the top of the fridge . This will let warm air inside the top fill line to help thaw . Ocassionally blow thru the 9 inch tube until you can blow thru it . May take a day or 2 , depending how frozen the line is . Once air will go thru , install the push on connector to couple the cut lines back togather .

The blinking red light on the right side , is the receiver for the electric eye for cutting off the icemaker when the door bin is full , This blinking is normal . 2 blinks ...pause...2 blinks..etc .

Do not replace the filter if water flow is good thru the dispensor .

I had a Whirlpool Model GD5SHAXNS in which the icemaker quit working about the same time (3 years old). I had water out the dispenser, I found that it was the icemaker itself failed not calling for water to fill it. I replaced it with a icemaker on-line for about $100 and problem fixed. I have been told his is a common problem with the icemaker in this model ref.

Ice makers will only drop cubes about every two hours. There is nothing you can do to speed it up. However, if you have low water pressure to the fridge, then you will have slow production. You need a minimum of 30-40 pounds (constant) of water pressure to the fridge for the ice maker to work properly. Things I typically see causing low pressure are: Self piercing saddle valves on the water line (need drill type), and reverse osmosis systems connected to the fridge. In some rare cases a very old water filter or limed up supply line.

Only a few things that would cause this problem. So lets start with the easy one. It is possible the tech forgot to turn the icemaker on. If the icemaker has a metal arm just push it down to turn it on. Most GE model icemakers have a little toggle switch on the front of them, Just flip that puppy to on and viola.
The second thing would be the refrigerator is not getting cold enough for the icemaker to cycle. The best test for this is a thermometer. To function properly the freezer needs to get to 0 degrees or colder. If you dont have a thermometer then check your ice cream. If it is soft then you have a refrigerator problem and not a icemaker problem.
3rd possibility. This is probably easier than the first. The tech installed the icemaker and forgot to turn the water on.
