Make sure the battery terminals on the inside of the phone are clean- usa a qtip and alcohol, or a pencil eraser. If that doesn't help, the problem could be a cracked trace inside the phone, which would require opening it up and inspecting it good. Sometimes you can resolder it, if it's a large trace or solder joint, but often the phone has to be scrapped. You might try a Thrift Store or Goodwill or Salvation Army- they might have a unit, or you may be able to order one from GE to replace it.
Good luck, and hope this helps.
Welcome to Fixya
Unplugged wall unit from the 110 volt outlet and the phone line from the unit for about 10 or more minutes. The phone worked after the phone line was reconnected and the wall unit plugged back in.
Thank you for using Fixya!

Disconnect the wall base unit from the wall telephone jack and connect another phone to the same jack. If there is no dial tone in the second phone, the problem might be your wiring or local service.
if you already used another phone and there is a dial tone using that phone. then the problem is already spacemaker. You might need to send it in GE and have it repaired.

Usually answered in minutes!
Same problem. I have unplugged everything for several minutes, but still did not work.
None of the solutins have worked.
I have had to wait to send a reply for a serviceman's visit. The problem in fact was the phone jack. I had it repairred today and all is well. I think we wasted money on getting a new battery, but we have learned from this experience. Thank you.
