SOUND DRIVERS THERE IS NO SOUND ON MY COMPUTER, AND WHY IS SOUND ON BOARD DISABLED

Simply install audio drivers of your motherboard. And sound will be there...
Drivers will be in Mother Board CD when you have purchased your pc. If you havent motherboard cd then download latest realtek from this link... http://drivers.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=20476&t=0&i=1 If this driver fails then search for compatible drivers for your motherbaord . Audio driver is necessary.

Before doing this though, you might want to check if the sound has not been disabled (speaker icon on the desktop), and in CONTROL PANEL / DEVICE MANAGER, click on the sounds icon and see if the computer is registering the sound codec (think its AC97 for this model). If it is, then there is a chance your sound chip has blown. Solution is then to insert an aftermarket PCI sound card

the drivers need to be installed before sound will work. you can get the drivers for your computer from the makers website. you need to know the model of the computer and what windows it has installed on it.

Please follow the following steps to rectify this problem :

Step 1 .Reset the default BIOS settings:
You can try resetting the sound default in the BIOS. Here's how:
1. Turn the PC on. When the Windows logo first appears, press the F1 key or Dell key repeatedly until you see the BIOS setup screen appear.
2. Press the F5 key ( Setup defaults). In some other PCs depending on the manufacturer the BIOS at start-up will have one of the default options that have names such as - ‘Load Fail-Safe Defaults’ and ‘Load Optimised Defaults’.You will have to choose ‘Load Optimised Defaults’
3. Select Yes or OK, then press the Enter key on your keyboard.
4. Press the F10 key, then select Yes or OK to save the default settings. Press Enter.
5. Exit the BIOS and restart your system checking for sound.
( For most PC's entering the BIOS will be the same but if it differs for your system, consult the operating manual for instructions on entering the BIOS.)

If this doesn’t work go to step 2

Step 2 . Configuring on-board sound in the BIOS:

Some computers come with sound on the motherboard (on-board), and some computers use a sound card. The on-board sound setting in the BIOS has to be set according to your particular sound configuration. Perform the following steps to correctly configure the sound in the BIOS:

Look at the back of your computer and use one of the following three items to determine the proper sound configuration and sound setting:
If the plugs for the speakers and microphones are located next to the parallel, serial, or USB ports, then the computer has on-board sound. The on-board sound setting in the BIOS should be Enabled. If the plugs for the speakers and microphone are located away from the other ports and sit in an area by themselves, the computer has a soundcard. The on-board sound setting (if there is one) in the BIOS should be Disabled. If the computer has sound plugs in both locations, a
soundcard has been added to the computer that already contains on-board sound. The on-board sound setting should be Disabled. To enter the BIOS, turn on the computer and when the first screen appears, press the F1 key /Dell key repeatedly until the BIOS Setup screen opens. Use the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW keys to select the Advanced tab. Press the DOWN ARROW key to select Onboard Audio Options and press ENTER. If Onboard Audio Options is not available, select I/O Device Configuration and press ENTER. If Audio Codec is listed, select it and press ENTER. Select either Enabled or Disabled depending on your configuration and press ENTER. Press the F10 key and then press ENTER to save and exit Start Windows and check for sound. If there is still no sound, continue to the next Step.

Step 3 . Reload the current sound driver

To do this, follow these steps
1.Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2.In the Device Manager dialog box, expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
3.Locate the audio device that was included with the computer.
4.Right-click the device, and then click Properties.
5.Click the Driver tab.
6.Click Uninstall.
7.Make sure that the Delete the Driver Software for this device check box is cleared, and then click OK.
8.In the Device Manager dialog box, click the Action menu, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
You should see a message that a hardware device is being installed. Additionally, the uninstalled audio device is now present in Device Manager.
9.Close the Device Manager dialog box, and then determine whether you can hear sound.

If your computer came with a motherboard CD, the audio drivers should be on the disk.

If you don’t have the CD go to your computer manufactures web page to search for updated sound driver software. Read the instructions on the download pages carefully
before installing.

If there are no updated sound drivers available, use Microsoft's Windows Update feature. Connect to the Internet and try the following items until Windows Update opens:

1.Click Start, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
2.Click Start, click Settings, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
3.Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
4.Go to Microsoft's Web site and click Windows Update from the Downloads menu.

Check if the sound works now….if it still doesn’t work then most likely the sound card might be faulty.

Check if the sound works now….if it still doesn’t work then most likely the sound card might be faulty.

Do you know for sure your speakers are working? Or is Windows saying there's no sound device? Does the Device Manager tree show any problems (! symbol) by sound hardware entries? Has the integrated sound been disabled in the BIOS settings?

Try downloading the sound drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website and reinstall. This often solves the problem.

If the integrated sound has failed, install a PCI sound card if there is an open slot on the board. Or you can also purchase a USB external sound card and plug it into an open USB port, and you don't even need to open the computer. Just be sure to disable the integrated sound in the motherboard BIOS setup.

Uninstall all the audio drivers and restart the computer. Make sure the audio jack is in the Green audio port.

Let the operating system re-detect the audio and install the drivers for it itself. When its done see if you have any sound.

Post back if this does not work.

Your "on-board" sound should be disabled in CMOS. If your "new" card is showing up in Device Manager, all you should have to do is load the appropriate drivers for it. Go to the manufacturers web site and download the latest drivers for the card you have. The computer shop should have done all this for you.

Hi curt here I have a hppaviliona636n desk top runing vista and I have the on board sound disabled. as it dose not seam o work and i do not have the orignal disk wth the drivers on it . how everI put my sound blaster live 5.1 sb0100 pci card in and down loaded the drivers for this card and installed them tem form a file on the desk top how ever this also did not make this card fireand I wonder if maybe I am missing a jumper of the sound blaster board and cant seam to find ajunper lay out for tiswhat cn I do to check for jumpers on both the sound blasterboard and the hp mother board .? and also do the drivers have to be saved on a cd or a 1.44 flopie disk befor they will load or will the sound drivers load from the desk top location?? my email address if you need it is [email protected] thank you Curt. tucson
