I have a refurbished Sony VGN-SZ460N notebook that was running Windows Vista. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate.
After that, the Fn keys would not work. I fumbled with it here and there and downloaded some software from the Sony E-support website and only the Fn keys for volume up and volume down and mute started working.
The other Fn keys will not work. I can't change brightness and contrast. I can't change screen resolution as it has only 2 options: 1024x768 and 800x600.
Another problem is that when I plug in an external monitors, it will not work, instead the monitor will go sleep. Therefore, I cannot use an LCD projector!

You can download Vista Drivers from sony's website and right click on the setup file go to properties and then select run this program under compability mode. this may help you on your driver issues also make sure that you install the drivers for the correct OS you have installed (32bit or 64bit) On the Webcam issue you have to play around with a couple of drivers since this were not written for win7.
The first step should be to browse the producers website to see if there are drivers for Windows 7. If not you can try to install vista drivers for your peripherals many times they work anyway.
Your Notebook Manufacturing Company SONY says that your Notebook Model VGN-SZ460N/C is optimized to work with Vista OS only. So the drivers you will be installing for XP may lost some of their functionality under XP platform. Still, you can download all your Notebook supporting drivers from this link.
Please download each file in the Computer to a folder. After that open the folder where the file was downloaded and double click to begin the installation. Then, please follow the onscreen instructions to complete the intallation process. Make sure that you restart the Computer after each installation. Installing all the above Driver/Utility in the correct order should fix the issue with the Volume/Brightness Function Keys.
i assume you upgraded the operating system to windows 7 ultimate using a retail copy of disc. vgnfj270/b only supports windows xp and vista home basic.
this model of vaio doesnt have a camera driver and software for windows 7 ultimate. check this link
I have this same computer. Didn't it come with 32-bit Vista, cause mine did. The hardware of the camera may not be compatible with 64-bit. Also, did you do a clean install? Cause that's what I did by mistake when installing Windows 7 and none of my hardware worked. I ended up switching back to Vista because Sony did not provide any drivers for Windows 7 for this computer.
