I have a s108sp subwoofer with a right and left input assuming this is for a cable going to one input on my Sony reciever. The subwoofer also has inputs for speakers. Do I plug the speaker wires into the subwoofer and then run a two end subwoofer cable from the subwoofer to a one input end in my reciever?

Easy. Your home theatre amp will have a sub or LFE output ( RCA plug ). You simply connect this output to the input ( usually the left side, or use a Y splitter and use left and right inputs, or the LFE input if your sub has it ). Then, you must turn the sub on in your recievers setup menu, and your sub should work.

Depending on the model, there are two ways to connect a subwoofer to an amplifier, receiver or processor. The best way is to connect the subwoofer to the SUB OUT or LFE output of a receiver, but some subwoofers can be connected to the speaker level outputs of the receiver or amplifier.


1. How to Connect a Subwoofer to the Subwoofer Output


The preferred method of connecting a subwoofer is through the LFE or Subwoofer output (SUB OUT) of a receiver. Almost all home theater receivers (or processors) and some stereo receivers have a subwoofer output. The LFE (Low Frequency Effects) is a special output for subwoofers and is often labeled 'SUBWOOFER' not LFE. 5.1 channel programs on DVD discs have a dedicated .1 channel output with bass-only content that is best reproduced by a subwoofer. Connect the output of the LFE or Subwoofer jack to the Line In jacks of the subwoofer using a single RCA cable (the two jacks on the left in the photo). A 'Y-Cable' may be necessary to connect the LFE output to both the left and right channels of the subwoofer.

2. How to Connect a Subwoofer to Speaker Level Outputs
Some receivers and amplifiers do not have an LFE or Subwoofer output. In this case you can use the speaker outputs of the receiver to connect the subwoofer. Using speaker wire, connect the left and right channel speaker outputs of the receiver to the left and right channel speaker level inputs on the subwoofer (the speaker inputs on the right side of the photo). Using speaker wire, connect the left and right channel speaker outputs on the back of the subwoofer to the left and right channel front speakers.

Connect the speaker output of the reciever to the input of the speaker. Make sure you connect negative receiver output to negative speaker input and positive receiver output to positive speaker input.

if bose unit has built in amplifier .Then your sherwood would have to have a variable RCA output jacks in order to work with sub.Then bose audio input RCA cable would connect there.If bose unit does not have built in amp .Then you would connect sherwood left/right speaker outputs into bose left/right inputs .Then other bose speakers will connect to bose unit

I have the same setup. Are you going out of the subwoofer output of the reciever? (it's purple.) then into the LFE jack of the subwoofer (also purple.) That's the only connection you need besides power. If you have those right, try using your cable for something else to make sure the cable is good. Is the indicator of the subwoofer green? Mine comes on with the reciever. Good luck!

if this is ao powered sub, that plugs into the wall, there should be no problems, if it is powered solely by the reciever it may work fine but be sure you dont exceed amperage on the subwoofer.

Look for the sub pre out on the back of your amp and connect a sub cable to this and next to the LFE or phono type input on the back of the sub ,if it has two inputs left and right pick the left side ,set the cross over to suit your system and speakers,if you are not sure set the cross over to 80 hertz,this is a thx standard.

The easiest solution to use your subwoofer is to buy an amp for it. Any old stereo receiver from a garage sale will probably do just fine.

1. Connect the mono RCA subwoofer output from your Sony with a 1xRCA-to-2xRCA splitter to both the left and right input of the cheap reciever's tape or aux input
   
2. connect both speaker outputs of the cheap reciever to the speaker input on your subwoofer. make sure both black (-) outputs on the reciever connect to the black input on the sub, and the red outputs (+) on the reciever are both connected to the red input on the subwoofer.
3. make sure the cheap receiver's volume is all the way down. turn your Sony up to about the loudest you'll listen to it. turn up the subwoofer amp until it's loud enough to sound good.
4. leave the subwoofer amp alone, the Sony volume will all you ever need to touch from now on.

You can even now turn off your subwoofer / adjust the volume easily now!

This means that you have purchased a three piece home theatre system. Two tweeters and a sub-woofer. Assuming you are using a Stereo player (Tape/CD/DVC)you have to connect the Left Output of the Stereo placer to the Left Input at the back of the Sub-Woofer and the Right output to the Right input of the subwoofer by cables. Then take tweeters and connect them to Right speaker and Left speaker output at the back of the sub-woofer ( note if the speakers are marked L/R, then connect them to the subwoofer output accordingly. In case you are using a 5.1 player, then only connect the front right and front left to the Right and Left input at the back of the subwoofer. You are and you can now start playing your music or movies and and you will get theatre quality sound.
