If it's a roaring noise, the tub bearing is probably wearing out. Spin the tub a little with your hand, if you hear a little of the roar, that's it.

The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. There is 2 possible problems. 1. Pump will make noise as soon as the drain and spin starts. 2. Rear bearing this noise usually starts later in cycle as the drum gets up to final speed. The rear bearing of coarse is the most expensive of the two as it is part of the outer tub.

I just replaced the bearings on my Front loader Maytag MAH5500B, as it sounded like a freight train during the spin cycle. The bearing replacement fixed the train problem.

NEW PROBLEM NOW: It's been about a month now since the bearing job and now something is clicking/binding when you spin the back belt wheel. I have taken the belt off and carefully move the wheel and I still get this clicking noise. It sounds as if someone is hitting the plastic drum that the tub is surrounded by. I really doubt it's the bearings this soon, as the sound is not the same! No leaks or metal shavings to speak of or rubbing of the belt wheel.

Seems like it's more noticeable during the wash/rinse cycles then the spin.

Can anyone help.???

It is not a car,but,it is a bad bearing. At the age of your machine it would be too costly to repair even if you did it yourself.

The link below, courtesy of www.repairclinic.com, shows that the rear bearing comes with the outer tub only and is very pricey! I have been unable to find a service agency that offers just the bearing. Very aggravating. www.maytag.com would be a good place to define your issue.

Probably a broken strut or support. some call it a shock absorber.

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary

Central bearing and seal are damaged. Very expensive repair and very expensive parts. Maytag does not sell bearings separately, they're only available with the outer tub, which is $400-$500; Repair itself is another 2-3 hours of hard work. Do the math...

very loud in spin cycle can mean a bad rear bearing, not something a homeowner would want to try to replace, parts would exceed 6-7 hundered dollars. you may have some extended part warr through the manufacture. still probly gonna be a 5 hundred when the labor is added in
