I have a brand new Hayward RS 2sp pump, new DE6020 filter and a new Hayward Vari-flo Valve / 6 positions. When I run the pump at low speed no water goes thru the waste line. When I run it at High speed, I get a steading stream of pool water going into the waste line. What do you think is causing this and how can I fix it? Thanks

The spider gasket inside the 6-position valve is probably leaking. Take the model number of the valve to a local pool store and they can order a replacement. You will also need a special sealant to install the new gasket.

SOURCE: using a hayward vari-flo valve model SP 710x32

Do not drain a vinyl liner pool mor than half way....ever... If you have a fiberglass, or gunite pool it is important to pull the hydrostatic plug under the main drain cover. If you live down a hill, or where there is a high water table, the water pressure underground can lift the empty pool out of the ground (more common in fiberglass pools). If you have a sand or DE filter switch the valve to waste. make sure that you have the skimmer turned off, and the pump is only sucking from the pool main drain (spa drain closed also), and turn the pump on. Make sure the waste hose is far enough away so you dont add any hydrostatic pressure.

SOURCE: Problem with vari-flo multipoer 1.5 and Hayward DE fiilter

You need a rebuild kit for the valve and possible a sand change. Sand should be changed ever 3 - 5 years or so depending on overall pool conditions.

The gasket inside the valve is out of place and therefore allowing water to leak out the waste port. Use a gokit to replace all the gasket/orings and you should stop the leak.

If the flow is still bad, inspect the sand and change it if necessary.

It will not be glued, it is just stuck in there good. You will need to scrape, pull, twist or otherwise convince it to come out as best you can and then clean the area well before installing the new one.

SOURCE: problems with hayward vari flow valve.

It sounds like you might just need to replace your valve. They are fairly inexpensive. Try contacting this company. They will be able to tell you exactly what you need to do (free advice) and will have the parts necessary if you do need to buy a new pool filter or new parts.

Just let them know that you need to speak with the person in charge of pools. He will be able to help.

The model number you give is for the multi port valve. Did you need the valve manual or the filter manual? Go to haywardnet.com for their full line and manuals. Here is the link for the SP0714 valve at their site. It is in PDF format...

Hayward sand filter

Reference your pressure gauge as the 12:00 position. Going clockwise-
12:00 is Filter, normal running position
2:00 is Waste, water goes from pool and exits the waste line, bypassing filter.
4:00 is Closed, used only when servicing equipment
6:00 is Backwash, reverses water through the filter and goes out the waste line.
8:00 is Recirculate, water bypasses filter and returns to pool.
10:00 is Rinse, water goes through filter and exits to waste line, used briefly after backwashing to clear sediment from filter.
Note that the "pointer," not the handle that you grab, indicates which setting you are on.

Hayward vari flo valve on filter also comeing out waste at same time

Yes, it is the "spider" gasket inside the valve that has gone bad. It needs to be changed out. They are not expensive. Go to YouTube and enter "change spider gasket" there are several videos. Good luck with it!

Hayward vari flo valve

If the spider gasket in the vari-flo valve is no good, you will usually notice one of two problems.

1. Water leaking out backwash port while filter is operating.
2. Valve positions are really difficult to change.

The way to check this is if you are able to move one or two of the "spokes" in the gasket freely(out of the track it sits in) once the top of the valve is removed.

If so you need to replace. The gasket is usually held in with a silicone sealant. Once you remove the old gasket. You will need to scrape any remaining rubber from the track it sits in. I've found that a brass brush from a pluming supply store or home depot along with a flat head screwdriver is usually enough to do the removal.
I always used Permatex Blue RTV sealant on all valve jobs. It can be found at any auto parts store or sometimes Walmart. Follow the instructions for curing. Once cured the gasket is good as new.

Control Valve handle wont stay in position

The valve should be about $100. We sell it for 90 something. You can rebuild them with gaskets and the spring. There should be a model number on yours, care to post it? Something like SP711, SP714, etc.

Check to make sure the plumbing is in the correct inlet/outlet on the valve head. Sounds like it's plumbed backwards. Inlet is from the pump, out to pool...
