Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20.1" LCD Monitor Logo

Ghosting, Flickering, Green Sparkeling Lines, Color Washout.

Please help! My Samsung Syncmaster 204B started flickering, and having green sparkling lines on the desktop icons and pictures. It then started the color washout **** to a flashing screen of grey and white horizontal lines and then to a solid grayish white screen. The screen flashing happens when nothing is even hooked up to it now. I have tried running through DVI and Analog and the problem still persists. It has gotten to the point now to where I all the screen will do is flash. I have tried all the stuff you guys recommended to the other people and nothing seems to work. I have tried CPUs with Nvidia and ATI nothing seems to work.

Your description applies to my 204B exactly, after it worked perfectly for a year.
However, it does not seem to occur at 1280 x 1024 resolution. Sad, as the native 1600 x 1200 is why I chose this model.

I have the exact same problem, with both NVidia 5600FX and 9500GT cards.
It does not seem to occur at 1280 x 1024 (at least no sign yet).
Too bad, as the 1600 x 1200 was the main reason for me to buy this monitor.

I had a similar problem on a different monitor and fixed the green sparkles by selecting a lower refresh rate.

Flickering and then no picture

punchjackson, You or qualified electronics technician will need to open and visually inspect switch-mode-power-supply board to possibly determine cause of SMPS going into partial or full shutdown mode. Do some reading in fixya profile of "louie12fix" and then visit links you find there. Remember this!!! The basic design and operation of your 204B isn't any different than any other "cold cathode fluorescent-lamp" back-lit LCD monitor. Inspect all solder joints and electrolytic filter capacitors first. Then let us know what you find. Also do a visit to YOUTUBE for lcd monitor repair videos and see what a Bad Capacitor looks like before you open your unit. 12fixlouie

I too have a dual monitor Samsung SyncMaster 204 setup. My monitors started flickering, then a week later had turn on problems like your describe. I found a fix on this fixya website and followed the fairly techie suggestion. It worked. I wrote up a .pdf set of instructions so others might also benefit. Hope this helps. Doug

Ghosting, Flickering, Green Sparkeling Lines, Color Washout.

There is a component failure on the board inside the display. Since you did not post the model number that is all that I can tell you.

Flickering, sparkeling, ghosting, you name it. Related to electricity in house?

No, it is not the electricity in your house, I had the same problem. Send it back to Samsung and get a new one. I have had to send my monitor back 4 times!
