I have Emachines W6409. I recently went from XP Media to XP Pro. I have updated all drivers but for some reason the SM Bus Controller still has that "!" next to it in device manager. The chipsets listed on Emachines driver download website do not work. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

SM bus controller is the same as chipset driver. You can go to this link & download & install the
Aspire E380/T180 Chipset Driver
Windows XP.

If this fails to install the driver you may need to use the restore CD or reinstall windows from scratch.

SM Bus controller driver will be found in the chipset driver download but it must be an exact match. The driver can be downloaded safely from Intels website here:

You can then download the driver for you network adaptor which will then get you into the internet where all things are possible!

W3502 emachine SM Bus Controller driver

Looks promising. It's an INF fie which are driver files. Download, extract, and direct Device Manager where to install driver from. The worst that can happen is it won't install, or you have uninstall / delete. Better than those fake drivers you mentioned.

Sm bus controller

Intel D102GGC2 Motherboard has ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Chipset and you have to install the chipset drivers, which would install the SM Bus Controller as well. Please visit the link given below, download the chipset drivers and install them.

The above drivers support Windows 2000, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and Windows XP Professional

Emachines sm controller driver for w6409 windows XP

go to the emachine website and locate the suppot tab. enter your computers serial number then operating systems and download and run the chipset drivers. this will resolve any sm bus controler issue

T3616 with XP pro can't recognize Trendnet TEW-424UB wifi adapter

Go to Emachines - - the intel 10/100 is what you need - try downloading speccy - - this tells you what you have to a point you can go to the website.

Try also - going to the intel.com website and downloading their utility so it can find out what you need from intel.

Had to reload operating system. Win XP Pro SP2. Now the SM Bus Controller can't be found in the device manager I have an Emachine model W3410

Do a Windows Update from SP2 to SP3 and then go into your device manager again. You should see it.

Dont supot driver as ethernet controller, sm bus

goto the ACER website, i use the exact same laptop, they provide all the drivers for Windows Xp Home/Pro Vista HB,HP,B,U both x64 and x86
Depending on your operating system, is what drivers you need, linux drivers are not provided.

Best bet is to run Windows Update. Windows update will see that there are missing drivers and provide them for you to download.

For Emachines W3503, download the chipset drivers for ATI Radeon® Xpress 200 at http://e4allupgraders.info/dir1/motherboards/socket775/D101GGC_downloads.shtml which provides all drivers for this model of computer.

This resolves Sm Bus Controller driver problem.

Also a good tool can be driver detective for emachines http://www.drivershq.com/Drivers/eMachines/W-Series/W3503/22605/22758/37169/Drivers.aspx

If you are recieving "Error 22: A critical error has occurred while initializing DirectDraw." while trying to play Diablo 2, Warcraft III, or World of Warcraft, it is because direct draw has been disabled. I reenabled mine by installing the catalyst at http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html for Windows XP Media Center Edition - Radeon - Radeon X300 Series.. Then use the Catalyst Control Center to renable DirectDraw.
