I have a firelite 40 gb portable hard drive. has been working great for years but now is not recognized by the computer and just blinks 6 times then once repeadedly. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like someone might have plugged to big of a voltage cord into it. take it apart and hope for a fuse??

It could be incorrectly formatted, if so you can reformat by using another computer that recognizes it or you may be able to find it on your laptop through a formatting tool. The formatting tool built into OSX is called "disk utility".

try connecting to different usb port. if issue persist check if HDD it self has any issue. same can be checked by connecting it to any other computer.

Computer not recognizing external HD

1st try a different computers make sure its not your Hard drive!
2nd if that works then go to the hard drive maker and download a software driver for it that should fix the problem

Dropped firelite: still spins but is not recognized

Ok same situation happened to me i dropped my Firelite 80Gig, drive would spin no light and the computer would not recognize the drive. All I did was open the case an saw the the internal hardrive had come loose from its pin connection. So all i did was pushed it back in and BAM now it works, hope this helps other people. Thanks C.J.
